WWE RAW Report
Aired LIVE! From Richmond, VA
June 28th, 2004
Reported by: The Worm, rajah.com RAW reporter

I'm back from vacation and I'm feeling better than ever. Kudos go out to Wizard Will for covering me last week, so if you see him, make sure to tell him thanks!

How about that Great American Bash? I didn't see it, but the moment I've been dreading the past few months has finally happened. Bradshaw is the new WWE Champion, and with that, I refuse to watch Smackdown until I know Bradshaw has dropped the title. I realize the WWE didn't have a whole lot of heels to choose from on the Smackdown side, but Bradshaw? I mean, c'mon, the writers can do better than that. If nothing else, move some RAW guys to Smackdown to provide some stability and have better options for Eddie to drop the title to. They could have had Eddie feud with the Undertaker after GAB over the title and then Eddie could drop the title to him at SummerSlam.

With that rant out of the way, let's get to the RAW coverage.

A vignette recapping the events leading up to the Triple H vs. Eugene match from last week is shown and then the RAW introduction plays.

JR welcomes us to the show and tonight we will see a World Heavyweight Championship rematch between Chris Benoit and Kane. JR comments that Bischoff ordered him to go to the ring to interview Kane. Remember the last time JR interviewed Kane? Kane set JR on fire.

Evolution's music hits and the four members proceed to come out and make their way down to the ring. JR says Triple H is the #1 contender, but Triple H never actually defeated Eugene, so technically Eugene is still the #1 contender.

Triple H Promo:

Triple H says that Bischoff has decided that whether Kane or Benoit wins, Triple H will be challenging the champion at Vengeance for the title. Triple H then decides to call out Eugene, and Eugene comes out to the ring after a long pause.

The crowd cheers as Eugene comes out, but whenever he looks at Triple H, he's gets a look of fear on his face. Eugene is sporting a bandage on his forehead with a smiley on it. Triple H says that things did get heated, but he was trying to teach him a lesson. Triple H was trying to prepare Eugene for all the guys who want to beat him up. If Triple H wanted to beat him up, he wouldn't be here. He wouldn't hurt him, because he's his friend. Unlike Benoit, who hit him with a chair. Eugene says that Benoit apologized, and Triple H that maybe he did, but Triple H will tell him the truth.

Benoit wants to hurt Eugene because he is jealous and he can't stand him. Triple H is very angry at Benoit and even though he doesn't normally say things like this, he says that Benoit is nothing but a big jerk. Eugene looks at him with a look of surprise. Triple H makes the word jerk sound like a vulgarity. Triple H says that Eugene doesn't need Benoit, and that's why he has Evolution. Triple H is honored that he is Eugene's favorite wrestler. Tonight, Triple H wants to make Eugene an honorary member of Evolution.

Just then, William Regal comes out and tells Eugene that Evolution is setting a trap for him. Regal tells Eugene that he can't trust them. Triple H tells the truth about Regal by saying that Regal was never his friend. He says that Regal was hired by Bischoff so that he could get his job back as a wrestler. Triple H goads Regal into telling Eugene the truth. Triple H is disgusted by Regal, that there's nothing lower than pretending to be Eugene's friend just to get his job back.

Triple H presents Eugene with a choice. Join Evolution or stay with William Regal. Before Eugene can decide, Bischoff comes out and tells them to stop it. He is not going to let them pressure his nephew like that. If they have a problem, they can face each other in the ring as opponents. He then announces that there will be a special guest referee for the match between William Regal and Triple H. The special guest referee will be none other than his own nephew, Eugene.

Up next will be a tag match between Chris Jericho & Edge vs. Randy Orton & Batista as we go to commercial.

The WWE Rewind recaps Batista taking out Chris Jericho with a huge clothesline.

Match #1 (Tag) - Chris Jericho & Edge vs. Randy Orton & Batista:

Jericho and Orton kick things off for this match. Jericho wants Batista, so Orton tags him in. They go to lock up, but Jericho ducks underneath Batista and slaps him. They try again, but again, Jericho ducks and this time forearms Batista into the corner. Jericho works him over with punches, but Batista manages to knock Jericho down. Batista chokes Jericho with his knee while using the ropes and then lifts him up. He rams Jericho into the turnbuckle and thrusts some shoulders into his abdomen.

Orton is tagged in and they double team Jericho. The two exchange blows, but Orton punches Jericho down into the corner. Slow Y2J chants begin to sound as a buzzer is heard (I guess to get the chants going). Batista is then tagged in and he chokes Y2J with his foot. Batista goes for a back suplex, but Jericho flips out and chops away at Batista. Jericho goes to bounce off the ropes, but he is met with a sidewalk slam by Batista.

While Batista distracts the ref, Orton gets in a cheap shot. Batista throws Y2J back in and drapes him over the apron to connect with some clubbing blows. Batista locks in a half nelson submission hold, and the crowd is solidly behind Y2J. Jericho gets up and he manages to connect with some rights, but Batista knocks Y2J back down. Jericho tries to tag in Edge, but Batista breaks it up. Orton is tagged in and he hits his beautiful dropkick.

Orton goes for the pin, but Jericho kicks out. Both men are down now and Jericho manages to tag in Edge. Edge is whipped and he flies across the ring with a flying forearm. He then connects with a side Russian leg sweep and goes for the pin, but Orton kicks out. Edge hits a flying heel kick and sets Orton up for the Spear, but as Edge charges, Orton leaps up and over him. Edge takes Orton down and then locks in the Edgecator (JR called it a modified sharpshooter), but Batista quickly breaks it up. Jericho and Edge hits a double dropkick on Batista to take him out of the ring and now Jericho and Orton are the legal men.

Jericho comes off the top with a cross body and he wails on Orton on the outside as we go to commercial.

Back on RAW, Edge is in control of Orton. Edge works him over with punches and then slams his head on the turnbuckle. Orton comes back by hitting a snake eyes on Edge. Batista is tagged in and he manages to bring Edge down with a powerslam. Batista goes for the pin, but Edge kicks out. Batista knees Edge in the back and then stomps on his abdomen. Orton is tagged in and he proceeds to stomp on Edge's abdomen. It appears that Edge has a black eye as we get a close up shot of his face.

Orton goes for a pin, but Edge kicks out. Batista is tagged in and he locks in a full nelson submission hold. Edge fights his way up and runs Batista down into the turnbuckle. Batista gets back up and hits an elbow drop, and then hits a cheap shot on Jericho. Orton is tagged in and he hits a snapmare on Edge. He then puts him in an aggressive body scissors and Jericho has recovered from the cheap shot.

Edge manages to fight his way out and he hits the Edge-o-matic on Orton. Both men are now down and Edge tags in Jericho and Orton tags in Batista. Jericho is in control of Batista until he bounces off the ropes and Batista catches him. Jericho slips out and he is taking it to Jericho. He hits the Flashback and goes for the Lionsault, but Batista rolls out of the way. Jericho hits the running knee on Batista. The face team hit a dropkick into a sunset flip, but Batista kicks out. Orton goes for the RKO, but Jericho counters. Batista goes after Jericho, but he ducks and takes out Orton. Jericho goes for the Walls on Batista, but Batista counters out. Edge hits the Spear on Batista and Jericho follows it up with the Lionsault to get the pinfall victory.

Winner: Chris Jericho & Edge

The announce team recap the events between Matt Hardy & Lita last week where Matt asks Lita to marry him, but Kane interrupts the joyous occasion and tells Matt that the baby Lita is carrying is his baby, not Matt's. They then remind the viewers of the World Heavyweight Championship match between Chris Benoit and Kane later on as we go to commercial.

Backstage Action:

We see Triple H in the locker room, and Ric Flair comes in to praise Triple H. They talk about Eugene, and Triple H says that he had a deal with Bischoff. He gets his title match, he keeps Eugene out of Bischoff's hair. After Triple H gets his title back, Eugene goes bye-bye for good.

The announcers give us the latest updates on the RAW Diva Search. The wannabe divas proceed to show off their talents (I guess) and they announce that the group has been wittled down to 20 finalists.

Backstage Action:

Lita is seen in her locker room talking to Matt over the phone. Lita is all emotional as Stacy knocks on the door and enters the room. She regrets sleeping with Kane, and she thought that by doing it, Kane wouldn't hurt Matt, until she actually did it.

Back out in the ring, we see security guards surrounding the ring as it's time for JR's interview with Kane.

Kane Interview:

JR is good to be back in Richmond, but he is reluctant to be interviewing Kane. Kane's pyro hits and he makes his way down to the ring. Kane takes the stick. Are you scared, JR? You know, if I wanted to do something to you, there's no one who's gonna stop me. JR has a job to do, and he asks why he maimed HBK.

It's simple. I was robbed of the World title at Bad Blood, and that made me angry. When I get angry, bad things happen. Shawn Michaels got in my way and for that, he needed to suffer.

JR asks Kane why he put Lita through all this torment.

See, JR, there's one thing I've craved, and that's a normal life. There is one thing that I want that I can have, an offspring. A son or daughter, someone I can mold, someone to continue my legacy. So I, made an arrangement with Lita and unbeknownst to Lita, I took every precaution to make sure she would get pregnant. That way, I get everything that I want. Tonight, I beat Chris Benoit and become the World Champion and then in about 8 months, I become a father.

JR says that there is a 50/50 chance that the baby is Matt Hardy's.

What are you trying to say, JR? You trying to anger me?

Matt Hardy quickly comes out and beats the hell out of Kane. Bischoff then comes out and orders the guards to break it up. Matt's not going without a fight, but then he gives up and the guards escort Matt out of the arena so as to not ruin the main event. Bischoff apologizes to Kane for the intrusion and says that the only way Benoit will be able to retain the title will be to get Kane to tap out, but Kane can win by pinfall, submission, DQ, and even count-out. Kane is all smiles as we go to commercial.

Match #2 (Singles) - William Regal vs. Triple H (w/ Ric Flair):

Eugene is the special guest referee for this match.

William Regal makes his return to the ring by coming out to his old music (the classical theme). I hope William Regal is still as good as he was before he was sidelined.

Eugene mimicks Triple H as he goes through his entrance. Eugene checks Triple H for hidden weapons and then they hug.

They lock up and Triple H backs Regal into the corner. Regal shoves Triple H and Eugene admonishes Regal for it. They exchange arm wrenches and Regal takes Triple H down to the mat. Triple H rolls over and locks in a hammerlock. Regal monkey flips Triple H and wrenches his arm. Triple H punches Regal and whips him. Regal hits a shoulder block and kicks Triple H in the solar plexus.

Eugene admonishes Regal again and they lock up yet again. Triple H backs Regal back into the corner and Eugene orders it to break. Regal comes back with punches, knocking Triple H down into the corner. Eugene is obviously on Triple H's side. Triple H punches Regal into the corner and then pulls him out to punch him down. Triple H hits a vertical suplex followed by a knee drop.

Triple H whips Regal and Regal kicks him in the chest. Regal comes back with punches and he is taking it to Triple H. Regal whips Triple H into the corner and follows it up with a back drop. Regal hits a modified suplex and he goes for the pin, but Triple H kicks out. Flair tries to get involved, which allows Triple H to hit a thumb to the eye. Flair tosses in a pair of brass knuckles, but Regal takes them and comes back with the Power of the Punch. Eugene sees it and he disqualifies Regal.

Winner by DQ: Triple H

Post-match, Triple H hits Regal & Eugene but Eugene thinks Regal attacked him and he goes after him. Flair and Triple H pull him off of Regal and he then takes down Flair. We see Triple H comforting Eugene at the top of the ramp as we go to commercial.

The WWE Slam of the Week recaps Benoit trying to get Kane to tap out three weeks ago, which results in Kane chokeslamming Benoit.

La Resistance comes out and Conway takes the stick. Conway doesn't see how we could celebrate Independence Day when we continue to oppress people all over the world. Grenier takes the mic this time and he wants Americans to show respect to Quebec, who represents real freedom. They want everyone to rise for the Canadian national anthem. Grenier proceeds to mutilate the hell out of it until they are interrupted by Rhyno and Sgt. Slaughter.

Match #3 (Tag, Non-Title) - La Resistance vs. Rhyno & Sgt. Slaughter:

Rhyno cleans the ring of La Resistance and Sgt. Slaughter comes in waving the American flag. Rhyno runs outside and punches both members down. Rhyno and Conway are the legal men and Rhyno has improved since being on Smackdown. Conway is now in control of Rhyno and he tosses him into the turnbuckle. Rhyno charges out with a shoulder block. Grenier attacks Rhyno from behind and he hits a cheap shot on Slaughter. Slaughter tries to get involved, which allows La Resistance to attack Rhyno.

Grenier goes for a pin, but Rhyno kicks out. Grenier clubs down on Rhyno's neck and then chokes him on the ropes. Grenier salutes Slaughter and then goes back to work on Rhyno. Grenier punches Rhyno and follows it up with knee drops. Grenier goes for a pin, but Rhyno kicks out. Grenier locks in a reverse chin lock and Rhyno is trying to fight out of it. Grenier hits a knee to the gut and then slaps Rhyno's head. Rhyno is staggering his way up, but Rhyno comes back with punches. Grenier tries to whip Rhyno, but he reverses it into a belly to belly suplex.

Both men are down and the teams tag their partners. Slaughter cleans house of La Resistance and he back drops Grenier. Conway is whipped, and he kicks Slaughter in the gut. Slaughter locks in the Cobra Clutch on Conway, but Grenier breaks it up. Slaughter tries to lock it in on Grenier, but Conway sneaks up and hits a DDT. Rhyno tries to help his partner, and he goes up top, but he is knocked off which allows La Resistance to connect with the Au Revoir (their double team manuever) on Sgt. Slaughter.

Winner: La Resistance

Commercial Break

Backstage Action:

Triple H is talking to Eugene in the locker room. He tells Eugene about Kane wanting to be his friend and then attacking him and then last week, Benoit hit him with the steel chair. He then reminds him of Regal, and how each time he got angry. No one is ever going to hurt Eugene again since he is now a part of Evolution.

Another RAW Diva Search recap is shown as the Coach makes his selection of those who will be going to the finals.

There have been three matches announced for Vengeance:

Chris Jericho vs. Batista
Edge vs. Randy Orton for the IC Title
Triple H vs. Chris Benoit or Kane (pending outcome of tonight's title match)

Backstage Action:

The Coach is talking to Bischoff about being interim GM for next week. Bischoff says it won't be the Coach, but instead it'll be someone who is closest to Bischoff, and that is Eugene. Eugene will be GM for a day starting next week in Winnipeg, Manitoba. I don't like the sounds of this, as Triple H as been manipulating Eugene and this will be exactly the thing he wants.

Up next will be Chris Benoit vs. Kane as we go to commercial.

Main Event (World Title) - Chris Benoit (C) vs. Kane:

Chris Benoit can only win by submission while Kane can win by pinfall, submission, count-out or DQ.

Kane kicks Benoit in the gut and then punches him. The two exchange blows and Benoit is whipped. Benoit dropkicks Kane in the knee and now Benoit is in control. Benoit goes for the sharpshooter, but Kane kicks him off. Benoit tries again, but Kane goozles him. Kane connects with a back elbow and goes for an elbow drop, but Benoit rolls out of the way. Benoit tries to get Kane in the Crossface, but Kane gets up and rams him into the turnbuckle.

Benoit is whipped, but he counters and kicks him in the gut. Benoit tries for the Crossface, but Kane powers out. Benoit is on the outside as we go to commercial.

Back on RAW, Benoit is in control of Kane, but it isn't before long until Kane knocks Benoit down. Kane connects with a snapmare and hits a leg drop. Kane goes for the pin, but Benoit kicks out. Benoit chops away at Kane, and he bounces off the ropes to baseball slide underneath Kane to the outside. Benoit pulls Kane out and Kane takes Benoit down. Kane gets back in the ring and the count begins.

Benoit gets back in at 9 and Kane goes for a pin, but Benoit kicks out. Kane stomps away on Benoit and kicks him outside. Kane goes to ram Benoit into the ring post, but Benoit slides out. Kane elbows Benoit and Benoit whips Kane into the steel stairs. Benoit wants the ref to count him out, but Kane can't be counted out as Benoit can only win by submission as we go to another commercial.

This time Kane is in control of Benoit with a reverse chin lock. I wish Kane would just win the title, he deserves a decent title reign for a change. Benoit tries to fight out, but Kane uppercuts him. He rams Benoit into the turnbuckle and Benoit comes back with chops. Kane signals for the chokeslam, but Benoit counters it into the Crossface. He manages to lock it in and the crowd is nuts. Kane is not giving up, as he works his way up and delivers a Samoan drop. Kane sits up and this time he signals for the Tombstone.

Benoit slides out and he connects with the rolling Germans. Benoit signals for the flying headbutt and it connects as Benoit flies off the top. Benoit goes for the pin, but Kane can not be pinned. He must tap out, and Kane sits up. Benoit dropkicks Kane and he goes up top again. Kane goozles him and Benoit drops to the mat, which causes Kane's arm to bounce off the ropes. Benoit throws Kane into the ringpost and goes for the Crossface. Benoit locks it in again, but Kane doesn't want to give up. Benoit rolls over, which causes Kane to tap out.

Winner: Chris Benoit

Post-match, Kane hits Benoit from behind and I'm tired of seeing Kane robbed like this. He signals for the chokeslam and chokeslams Benoit to hell. Lita's music comes out and Lita comes to the ring with a smile on her face. Kane doesn't know what to make of it, but Lita picks up the World title and hands it over to Kane. Lita raises Kane's hand, and when you thought Kane was going to attack, Lita low blows Kane and threatens to use the title on Kane.

Kane goozles Lita and lifts her up for the chokeslam, but he can't do it. I guess now Lita is trying to goad Kane into killing her unborn child. Lita gets out of the ring. Benoit nails Kane with the World title and the ref raises Benoit's hand. Lita is smiling as she makes her way up the ramp and we are welcomed to the:
