Matt Hardy Speaks on Lita, TNA, Edge Winning WWE Title, Ashley, more

The Sun in Great Britain has an interview with Matt Hardy now online. Below are some highlights from the Q & A:

On his current relationship with Lita: "I'm absolutely fine with Amy, we're actually pretty close right now. She's in a totally different place to when she was sucked in by my lying, betraying former friend. As far as Edge goes, I don't speak to him and have no dealings with him. Amy is very open to admit that she made a mistake and if she could go back in time she would change things. Whereas Edge has never said sorry or come across as apologetic. But the way I look at it is that this whole thing was something I had to go through to continue my career in the WWE, and doing the angle actually helped me get over what happened."

Why he didn’t go to TNA: "I had to decide what was best for me, my career and my livelihood. People were chanting "we want Matt" during Edge's matches, so there was a feeling among my fans that they wanted me to go to the WWE and have a storyline with Edge. Also, at that point, TNA didn't have a television deal - and a huge factor in going to the WWE was that I wanted to be on TV. If I was making that decision now, TNA being on Spike would definitely have made a difference. Plus the WWE was my family. I hated the way I left and I didn't want to go out like that. So I enjoyed the opportunity to come back and make things right. There was also the chance to make good money. I think the WWE knew they gave me a raw deal by firing me, so they took care of me financially in negotiations. I do sometimes think about what would have happened if I'd gone to TNA. But you can't live like that, second guessing things you've done. The reality is I'm in the WWE and have already had a lot of good matches and moments since coming back. Now I just have to put myself in a position where I make myself as good as I can be and win over whoever I need to win over to keep moving ahead."

Opinion on Edge Winning WWE Championship: "I was working in the main event of a Smackdown house show at the time, so I didn't actually see the PPV. As far as being a performer goes, Edge deserves the title. He's very talented and has worked hard for a long time. But as a human being and a person I definitely have strong issues with him. And would Edge be in a top position if it wasn't for me? Probably not. The main reason he became so hated was because of my situation."

Comments on girlfriend Ashley Massaro: "We've been dating but it's been slowing down a bit since we've been on separate brands, as our time is so limited as far as seeing each other."

The possibility of Hardy Boyz Reunion: "The only way I could ever see Jeff coming back is if he got motivated and was in top physical shape. But right now Jeff doesn't want to always be on the road, he doesn't want to wrestle every night and he doesn't want to deal with all the politics of the business. So, with his current state of mind, I don't think we'll see Jeff back in the WWE. But never say never. In wrestling, anything can happen! Jeff has been working for TNA and hopes to be back on their shows again soon."

Hardy goes on to talk about his differences with The Undertaker, WrestleMania 22, WWE being surprised by his popularity, not being pushed, and more. Click here to read the full interview.
