WWE.com has posted an update on the condition of Edge. The former WWE World Heavyweight Champion underwent surgery for a torn pectoral muscle over the weekend. World renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews did the procedure.
Andrews noted in the WWE article that the injury was much more severe than first thought. While it was known that Edge would need surgery as soon as possible, it was not discovered that the muscle was a complete tear until he was opened up. Andrews said that the injury could have been career-threatening had it not been properly repaired. The surgery was said to be a complete success.
According to the article, Edge is expected to return to WWE near the end of 2007. However, there are numerous factors that could cause that date to be pushed back significantly.
