RAW Opening: LIVE from Washington, D.C., the WWF presents it's sophomore,
but hopefully not sophomoric, effort at RAW is WAR on The National Network!
Tonight's show is dedicated to the first Executive Producer of WWF
television, Dennis Dunn. Pyros, and lots of them, flare, and JR welcomes us
to the second show on the network that's got pop. The show starts with the
WWF Champ, the Rock, coming to the ring. Rock has finally come back to DC.
There are things that bring on a gut instinct, like swatting a fly, petting a
cute puppy, and Marion Barry (misspelled?) smoking crack. Seeing Kurt
Angle's smug face, the Rock's gut instinct is to smack it, which is what Rock
tried to do, before Stephanie McMahon-Angle, no, McMahon-Helmsley stuck her
nose in the business and allowed Angle to win. Rock has no problem with
Olympic celebrations. A man named Ruland Gardner, an American
super-heavyweight, beat an unbeaten Russian in the Olympics in Sydney.
Gardner accepted his medal like a man should, unlike Angle, who cried and pr
obably pissed himself upon getting a medal. Rock calls out Angle to
celebrate with him tonight, because Angle has a shot at Rock's title. Angle
comes out, pointing to his gold medal. Angle says that Ruland Gardner did
not beat the unbeatable, because Angle wasn't at these Olympics. He asks how
dare Rock belittle Angle's celebration. He says he captured the heart of
America and gave the people a reason to live. He says he won't let down the
people, unlike another gold medalist, Michael Jordan. Angle finds possibly
the only thing Jordan has not excelled at, that being owning the Washington
Wizards, and picks on it. Angle says he will beat Rock tonight, and show all
the young ones how to be like Kurt. Mick Foley comes down and into the ring.
Foley tells Kurt that he has been in this business for a long time and has
seen horrible things, but has never seen anything as horrible as what a
nation full of little Kurts would be. He tells Rock to let Kurt Angle slide,
because there is someone backstage who wants Angle a bit more. This of
course prompts the Game and Mrs. Game to come out down to the ring. Triple H
gets on the stick and asks how dare Rock make fun of Angle's Olympic victory.
He says Rock should be ashamed of himself, for taking Triple H's job. Trips
starts mocking Angle, with Foley joining in. Triple tells Angle this will
all come to an end tonight. He points to Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley and says
she is not Angle's pal, friend, ally, etc. What she is, is Triple H's wife.
He says he has wasted his time for the past few months, rather than going for
Rock's title. Triple H reminds Rock that he never beat him for the Title.
He says he should be continuing his run as Champ, but instead has been
messing around with Angle. He tells Foley he wants a once and for all match
with Angle tonight. Foley says he is in a bind, because Triple wants Angle,
and Angle wants the WWF Title. He says the only solution is for Triple H to
take on Angle, and for the winner to be the #1 Contender for Rock's Title.
This prompts the odd man out, Chris Benoit, to come on down. Benoit says he
is sick and tired of coming out night after night and having to ask and nag
for the Title. He says he'll get at Rock one way or another. He says Foley
can let him have a legit match with Rock tonight, or he'll have to make Rock,
Foley and the People pay in another way. The man even further out, Kane,
blows the lid off the stage and comes down. He says no matter what Benoit,
Foley, or the People want, the WWF Title will find it's way around his waist.
He screams, "Rock, you're mine!" He goes off on Rock, saying his days of
raising the eyebrow are over. This prompts the man, who is so far off the
title map he isn't even in sight, Rikishi to come to the ring. Rikishi goes
right to Kane and lets him in on a "secret". He says tonight he won't get a
shot at Rock's title, because he and Rikishi have unfinished business. He
tells Kane he is ready to back his ass up in DC. Foley steps in and says he
has a bit of intelligence, and will make everybody happy. He says Benoit and
Kane will face Rikishi and Rock. Rock stops Benoit and Kane from leaving and
says he is not done. He says he will make Benoit and Kane happy people. He
says both should go find a quiet place, where Kane can find things, Benoit
can prove things. He says Benoit will pull his pants down, and prove to Kane
that he is not a woman, and Kane can go and find Benoit's "alleged" penis.
After they've played touchy-feely with "Benoit's inky-winky", they can come
get their asses kicked by Rikishi and Rock. Commercial.Hardy Boys vs. Too Cool (Tag Titles): The Hardys come out with their girl
Lita first. Followed by the new sound of Too Cool, with their girls Victoria
and Mandy. Matt and Scotty start, with Scotty the quickest. Back elbow by
Matt, who goes up top and pushes Scotty down. Leg drop by Matt 1-2-kickout.
Sidewalk slam by Matt, tag to Jeff, who hits a rope-flip splash 1-2-kickout.
GrandMaster shows his dance moves, but Jeff shows his own. This allows
Scotty to hit Jeff from behind and legally tag Scotty. The two fight, but
GrandMaster misses a Bronco Buster. Tag to Scotty. Matt cleans house, with
Jeff doubling. GrandMaster hits a double DDT on the Hardys, and scores a two
count. The Hardys hit Poetry in Motion to GrandMaster, but Jeff misses
Scotty. This allows Scotty to hit the facebuster and the Worm 1-2-Matt puts
his foot on the rope. Edge and Christian come down. Scotty goes off the
ropes and Edge runs in and goes to spear Matt, but hits Scotty. Jeff climbs
the turnbuckle for the Swanton Bomb 1-2-3! In the back, Triple H is think
ing. Steph asks about what, and he responds nothing. She asks if it is
about SmackDown! since she thought they had everything covered. Triple H
says it's about tonight. Something is wrong, but he can't figure out what.
Commercial.X-Pac, Tazz & Raven vs. Jericho & The Dudleys: During the break, Foley came
to Edge and Christian's locker room, while Christian is lamenting about not
getting the titles off the Hardys. Foley says they get a shot at gold, not
the Tag Titles since they can't get a shot at that while the Hardys are
champs. He says they'll fight Blackman for the Hardcore Title (yes, both of
them apparently). Christian accuses Foley of being a "heiniositer," to which
Foley replies, "I'm a Sagittarius!" In the arena, Tazz and Raven come down
for six-man tag action. X-Pac comes down. The Y2J Countdown hits double
zero, and the Ayatollah comes down. The three heels beat down on helpless
Jericho until the D-Bombs drop and the Dudleys clean house. BuhBuh slams
Tazz, which allows D-Von to hit the Whassap Diving Headbutt to Tazz's groin.
Raven comes in and they double team their former ECW workmate D-Von. X-Pac
comes in and misses a Bronco Buster, allowing D-Von to tag Jericho, who
cleans house. Jericho sets Raven up for the Walls of Jericho, but X-Pac hits
a spinning heel kick on Jericho 1-2-kickout. Tazz locks in the Tazzmission
on Jericho, but BuhBuh hits a Full Nelson Slam on Tazz. 3-D on Raven,
followed by a Lionsault 1-2-3! Jericho picks up the win in a match filled
with nonstop action. We see that the Rattlesnake has just arrived.
Commercial.RTC & Foley; Lita & Jackie Get Hardcore: In the back, we see that Foley is
going crazy over Chyna's Playboy spread. Steven Richards comes in and tells
Foley to put the filth away. Bull asks Foley to listen to them, not as RTC
members, but as parents. Val Venis comes in and says a cancer has come to
the WWF, a cancer named Steve Austin. He says Foley needs to put his foot
down about Austin. Foley says first they better get the hell out, then he'll
make a decision about Stone Cold that will be final. Michael Cole is about
to interview Lita, but Jackie jumps her and takes her to the women's
lockerroom. Some real Hardcore fighting goes on, into the bathroom, where we
see someone in the shower watching from the curtain. Jackie rubs lipstick on
Lita's face and this vicious action spills to the garage. Lita whips Jackie
into a truck and Lita throws various objects at her. Jackie regains control
and they go atop the hood of the 18 wheeler, when Lita pushes her to the
ground. Lita is going to moonsault off the truck, when Jackie comes out and
sprays the Champ with a fire extinguisher. Finally officials come to break
up the action, which was more hardcore than most hardcore title matches as of
late. In the back, Rikishi and Rock leave their lockerroom. Commercial.Kane & Benoit vs. Rikishi & Rock: Kane rocks the stage and pops the ring
posts. Then Benoit comes out. Rikishi comes out first, like everyone who
teams with Rock. Unlike many Rock tag matches, Rock promptly comes out,
rather than leaving his partner alone for the first five minutes. Rikishi
and Benoit start out. Clothesline by Rikishi, followed by a scoop slam.
Rikishi hits a leg drop, and then clotheslines Benoit in the corner. Tag to
Rock, who beats on Benoit, with a clothesline to the back of the head. Back
elbow by Benoit. Tag to Kane, who gets knocked down by a recovering Rock.
Rock tosses Benoit in and he beats on him, letting Kane destroy Rock. Elbow
drop by Kane, followed by a choke. Rock tries to fight back, but Kane hits a
sidewalk slam. Kane goes up top and the Big Flying Machine hits an elbow
1-2-shoulder up. Tag to Benoit. Benoit hits chops to the chest, but Rock
fights back. Belly-back suplex by Benoit, followed by another, but not
another. DDT by Rock 1-2-broken by Kane. Tag to Kane, who keeps Rock from
tagging. Suplex by Kane, followed by a big boot. Kane signals the end, and
he sets up a Tombstone, but Rock floats out, and hits a spinebuster. Rock
goes for the People's Elbow but Kane pops up and chokeslams Rock. Rikishi
runs in and Superkicks Kane, allowing Rock to recover and tag Rikishi, who
hits a Samoan Drop on Kane. Rikishi backs the ass up into Kane, and then
hits a Samoan Drop on Benoit. Kane hits a clothesline that flips Rikishi
head over heels. Kane sets up a chokeslam, but Rock knocks him outside.
Benoit hits Kane with a chair and throws his partner in. Bonsai Drop by
Rikishi 1-2-3! Benoit is already gone, with Kane following. In the back,
Foley is seen walking with a purpose. Commercial.Stone Cold & Foley w/ Billy Gunn!: Foley makes his way to the ring, for what
seems to be an important announcement. Foley says that Stone Cold was run
over last November, and they both have been conducting their own
investigations. He says no legal problem has ever been solved by a Stunner,
but this is Austin's way. He says last week he told Austin to stop using the
Stunner or else. Foley says Austin responded by Stunning two DXers in their
respective Title matches, and then walking by Foley when he tried to get an
explanation. He says he needs to talk with Stone Cold, and get things
straightened out. The Rattlesnake comes out, and I just realized this is my
first RAW Report with StoneCold as an active wrestler, not just a video
interviewee. Foley says he has questions for Austin, but he is not Austin's
enemy. He is not Vince, he doesn't want to be, but he must keep his promises
as Commissioner. He says Austin may be pissed off, but Foley says he needs
Austin's word that he won't interfere in any matches. Austin says Foley
claims he is going to help Austin in his investigation, but he has simply
held Austin back and not proved anything. He says this weekend he was at
home and he saw a commercial that gave him an idea. He says he called up
Cleo (the phone-in psychic). He says after three beers he realized Cleo
didn't know who hit Stone Cold, but he also realized that Cleo did as much as
Foley has. Foley says Austin is wrong and that he has found and flown in one
of the prime suspects in this case, Bad Ass Billy Gunn! The Ass Man comes
down, looking better than ever. Foley says he has single handedly solved
this case, but says he is going to let Austin settle this Stone Cold style.
The two stare at each other. Gunn gets on the mic and says he is here to say
this man to man. He says it is true that when Austin got run over he could
not be accounted for, and it is true he was a member of DX then, so he is
Suspect #1. He says that as the police have proved, Gunn's flight was
delayed in coming. Gunn says he did not run over Stone Cold, but he does
have prime information. He says as he pulled in, the car that hit Stone Cold
hauled ass out past him, and he saw blond hair. He says he isn't saying this
to help out DX, because he is still pissed at them. Stone Cold says that
looking in Gunn's eyes, he believes his story, but he never liked Gunn
anyway. Stone Cold proceeds to Stunner Billy Gunn and grab some beers before
he heads out. Commercial.Edge vs. Christian vs. Steve Blackman (Hardcore Title): Edge & Christian's
music hits, and the blonde bombers come out. Edge and Christian run out and
take on Blackman outside. Christian hits Blackman with a trashcan lid, while
Edge gets thrown to the fans. Blackman takes the lid and works on Christian,
and then the returning Edge. Knee strikes by Blackman, followed by a
bulldog. Blackman sticks the trashcan in the turnbuckle. Edge tries to drop
toe hold Blackman into the can, but Blackman stops himself, but Christian
dropkicks him into the can. Edge hooks Blackman into the tree of woe and
places the can in front of Blackman's face. Christian slides into the can
which hits Blackman's face. They go and get chairs, but Edge gets his put
back in his face. Christian goes to check on Edge and when he turns around,
Blackman karate kicks the chair into Christian's face 1-2-3! Earlier
tonight, we see that the RTC held a burning of Chyna's Playboy. Commercial.Chyna's Publicity: In the back, we see Stone Cold going to the Brooklyn
Brawler to confirm Billy Gunn's story. The Brawler says he was driving Gunn,
and therefore didn't see the driver of the other car. Stone Cold extends his
hand and Brawler jumps away. Video montage of Chyna's Playboy publicity,
including a New Yorker referring to Chyna as a "Nubian goddess." Go look it
up children, and see the humor. We see the RTC getting ready for their
match. Commercial.Eddie Guerrero & Chyna vs. Steven Richards & Val Venis: Eddie and Chyna come
out first. The two RTC members come out next. They double on Eddie, with
Steven eventually starting out. Eddie hits a Tornado DDT on Steven and both
men tag. Chyna takes out Val with a clothesline and a DDT 1-2-broken by
Steven. Val flips Chyna outside, as Eddie beats on Steven. Bull and
Goodfather run down and clean house, but behind them runs the Rattlesnake.
Stunner on Bull, Stunner on Goodfather. Steven Richards runs out, right into
Chyna. Chyna hooks in the Testicular Claw on Richards and throws him to
Austin, who hits a Stunner on Steven and then on Eddie. Stone Cold then uses
his top star status to promote alcoholic beverages to young people. I guess
the RTC can send it's message through the TV. As Austin continues to
celebrate, Foley comes down to the ring. Foley says Austin hasn't left him a
choice, except to choose between a fine or a suspension. He says he has
decided to...Stunner on Foley! The Anarchy of 3-1-6 reigns. Austin first
toasts Foley with a beer, then gives him the middle fingered salute.
Commercial.Foley on the Rampage; Triple H & Steph: JR says Austin has left the
building, with Lawler speculating that maybe Foley will leave in pursuit as
well. We see Foley going on the rampage, destroying things in the back,
yelling "Who does he think he is?" In the hall, Triple H is stretching with
Steph. She asks if he still feels weird about tonight, and he says he does.
He says he needs Steph to stay back, since so much is on the line tonight.
He walks out and Steph walks back to her room, meeting Benoit on the way. He
asks how her head is feeling, and she slaps him. Commercial.Kurt Angle vs. Triple H (#1 Contender Match): We see that earlier today,
Linda McMahon led a SmackDown The Vote Campaign in front of the White House.
In the arena, Triple H comes down to the ring, ribs taped up, without Steph.
The 2000 King of the Ring comes down, and Triple H baseball slides right into
a celebrating Angle before the match begins. Triple H beats on Angle
outside. The bell rings, and the match "begins." Triple H unwraps his ribs
and chokes Angle with the bandage. Trips flips Angle with the bandage and
then tosses him over the top rope. Trips gets dropped on the security
barrier, and then Angle hits a belly-belly suplex on Triple H. In the ring,
Angle hits a suplex 1-2-shoulder up. Another suplex by Angle 1-2-kickout.
Angle hits another suplex on Trips 1-2-kickout. As Raj has pointed out
before, Triple H's voice seems to always get picked up on mic, and we hear
him say "What the hell are you doing?" Steph comes down to cheer. Trips has
Angle set for a Pedigree, but Angle flips him over 1-2-shoulder up.
Belly-belly suplex by Angle 1-2-shoulder up. Knee to the face by Triple H
and both men go down. Falling neckbreaker by Triple H, followed by a high
knee 1-2-shoulder up. Triple H clotheslines Angle to the outside, and Trips
hits an ax handle smash from the steps. Trips starts pulling monitors from
the announce table. Triple H lays Angle on the table, and Trips climbs the
security barrier. Triple drops an elbow onto Angle, which collapses the
table. For some reason, Hebner has not called for the bell. In the ring,
Angle lunges at Triple H but hits Hebner. Triple H hits a Superplex on Angle
but there is no ref. Benoit comes down and grabs Steph by the hair. Triple
H comes out and beats on Benoit, whipping him into the steps. Angle comes
out and whips Triple H into the steps. Angle grabs a chair. In the ring,
Angle reaches back to hit Triple H with the chair, but Steph pulls it away
from him. They argue, and Triple H pulls Angle around and sets Angle up for
a Pedigree. Benoit pulls Steph from the apron and takes the chair. Triple H
drops Angle and reaches for Benoit, who wraps the chair around Triple's face.
Triple H stumbles into the Olympic Slam 1-2-3! Angle steals one from the
Game. After Angle leaves, Triple H starts yelling at Steph. She begins to
cry and Triple H turns his back on Steph and walks out. End Show.
