- Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler welcome us to one of those rare live Smackdowns straight from the MCI Center in Washington, D.C.

- Cole announces the main event for tonight which is Booker T vs. Rock with the winner facing Chris Jericho at the Royal Rumble PPV.

Dudley Boyz vs. Tazz & Spike
- This match is for the tag team titles. The Dudley Boyz along with Stacy Keibler make their way down to the ring first, followed by Spike. Before Tazz can come down to the ringside, the Dudley Boyz attack Spike and for some strange reason the bell rings. Tazz's music hits and he comes running down and attacks both D-Von and Bubba. Irish whip to D-Von and an elbow knocks him down. Tazz tags out to Spike who continues to work away on D-Von and succeeds in getting a two count. A blind tag to Bubba and he hurls Spike on top of the ropes and then to the outside. Back in the ring now, D-Von is back in and continues to the offense on Spike and goes for a cover, but only gets a two. Back and forth, the two tag team champions show Spike no mercy and have him isolated in their corner of the ring. Spike gains some time after catching D-Von with a kick in the corner and tags in to Tazz. Chaos now with all four men in the ring and Stacy Keibler up on the apron. She attempts a slap, misses and Spike instead pulls Keibler's skirt down. With Tazz incapacitated via a low blow, Spike falls into the hands of the Superbomb for the 1-2-3.

- Backstage, Lilian Garcia interviews Jazz. She talks about Jazz's reputation and states that she has a match tonight against Molly. Jazz interrupts her and says that she is not here to get interviewed - she is here to make a statement and it starts with Molly. She's not like all the other bleached blonde females who sleep their way to the top. Instead, she fights her way to the top because she can and will. And there's not another woman in this federation who can stop her. Interview is over and Jazz says bye. Lilian is about to say something else and Jazz comes back and grabs Lilian by the arm and says that maybe she should make an example out of her instead of Molly. She shoves Garcia, calls her a bitch and walks away.

- We come back to the "No Chance" music with the chairman Vince McMahon making his way down to the ring. He wishes us all a happy New Year and states that his New Year's resolution is to embarass and annihilate Ric Flair at the Royal Rumble - to beat him beyond recognition. The fans are chanting "WHAT" and McMahon asks for some courtesy but doesn't get any. He then moves to Time Magazine's "Person of the Year". It is Rudy Guilliani, mayor of New York. He says that there were others considered for this honor and he shows his own picture on Time Magazine. The fans continue to chant "WHAT" and Vince says that if they don't stop he will take action. The fans continue and Vince asks for sections of the audience to have their lights cut out. Pretty soon the whole arena is dark and the Titan Tron is gone. He comments on his power before Stone Cold Steve Austin's music hits. McMahon hollers for the lights to come back up and when they do, Austin is in the ring right behind him. Austin starts the "WHAT" chant and asks Vince if he just called himself the Person of the Year. He says that whoever thinks Vince is the Jackass of the Year, gimme a hell yeah. Stone Cold then goes onto touch on his New Year's resolutions. Drink more beer, drink more whiskey, more tequilla, more vodka, more red wine. The biggest resolution he has is that the first time he lays eyes on him, he would knock him out. Booker T and Big Bossman make their way out and McMahon tries to attack Austin but Stone Cold catches him with a punch. This allows Bossman and Booker T to overpower Stone Cold and the two lay a beating on him. Bossman grabs the mic and drives it into Austin's head repeatedly causing Austin to bleed from the head. They continue their vicious assault, taking turns with Vince standing over them smiling. The three finally leave with the bloodied Austin laid out in the ring.

- We return to see clips of what just happened. Cole says that Austin is receiving medical treatment as we speak and will be transferred to a local medical facility for further observation.

Mighty Holly vs. Jazz
- Back in the ring, Molly makes her way to the ring and we see clips from last week where Jazz attacked both Trish and Molly during a match the two had. Jazz comes down next and immediately attacks Mighty Molly. Jazz aggressively controls the match throwing Molly across the top rope on two occasions. Three double underhook suplexes by Jazz still results in only a two count. Jazz goes for a splash but misses and Molly attempts a rollup but she too only gets a two. Jazz finally nails a fisherman's DDT for the 1-2-3.

- Backstage, an arena worker lets in another man inside after checking his credentials and behind him is Stephanie McMahon. She says she doesn't have her pass but she should be on the allow list. The man says she isn't so Steph says that Ric Flair must have forgotten. The worker says that she can't come in and Steph says that she will. Steph then says that Triple H will be back in four days and when he returns, she will be in position of power. And at that time, he will be the first person she fires.

- Backstage, Test tells Lance Storm and Christian that he hooked up with a European woman. Christian asks him what her name was and Test says that he didn't even ask her. Lance interrupts the two and says "what are we here for again" because they were asked to be here. Before anyone can answer, Chris Jericho enters the lockerroom and says that these three are his best buddies. Jericho gives them each a present and Christian wonders whether this festive mood Jericho is in is because Triple H returns this Monday. Jericho says no, he gave them gifts because they deserve them - Test, Mr. Immunity; Christian - Champion of Europe; Lance Storm - Beat the Rock, 1-2-3. The gifts are a token of his appreciation for men who will watch each others' backs. Jericho tells them he has a match and so they should leave. They do.

- Backstage, Jonathan Coachman is inteviewing Undertaker. He runs through Taker's recent victims - Lita, the Hardys and now Tajiri. Coach brings up the Big Show and his challenge and how the Undertaker just rode away. Taker takes exception to that and says that it's all a part of psyching out your opponent. He tells Coach that Big Show like everyone else needs to learn the word respect. He then says that when all is said and done, we will find out who is scared of whom.

- Backstage, Test is walking in the hallway when Torrie Wilson walks past. He says he bought her a present - the same present that Jericho gave him. She opens it and it's a Jericho shirt. Test says it's all about the thought. He asks her if after the show they want to go out and party. Torrie says that she's already taken but Test responds by saying that he doesn't want to be her boyfriend. Test asks her how she can refuse him. Torrie once again says that she has a boyfriend and Test gets upset and challenges Tajiri to a match tonight to see who the better man is.

Big Show vs. Undertaker
- We're back live and the Big Show's music is blaring and he makes his way down to ringside for his WWF Hardcore title match against champion Undertaker. Taker comes down next on his motorcycle. Big Show runs outside and Taker zooms off with Big Show in pursuit. Show catches him by the ramp and brings him back to the ring. Show grabs a couple garbage cans and a stop sign and throws it into the ring but once steps in Taker drills with a can lid. Taker hits Show with a can but it doesn't even faze the big man and Show turns the tables and attacks Taker with several shots to the head. A pin attempt only gets two. The action shifts to the outside and Show continues to dominate until a miss knee attempt. Taker now takes the steel steps and rams it into Show's knee. Undertaker then takes a steel chair and drives it into Show's ribs and back. Back in the ring now, Taker wastes time by trash talking Show which allows Big Show to catch him in a chokeslam but Taker kicks out at two. Show doing a good job selling his knee and as Taker walks towards him with a chair, Show punches it knocking back into Undertaker's face. Big Show signals for the Last Ride but Undertaker low blows him but hits the Dragon Sleeper and Show taps out. Lawler dubs the move TCB - Taker Care of Business.

- Up next, Edge and Rob Van Dam team up to take on Chris Jericho and Kurt Angle.

- We're back and Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler shill this week's episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

- Backstage, Stephanie approaches the arena worker and wheels in Mr. Dudley, who is on the allowed list. Stephanie apologizes. The worker says that Stephanie is still not on the list and gets someone else to take Mr. Dudley. Stephanie then says that maybe she's taking the wrong approach. She says that the man's forceful nature is a turn on. She tells him that if he lets her in, she will make it all worthwhile for him. The man responds by saying that he is gay. Just then, Billy Gunn and Chuck Palumbo enter and the man says that if these two ever came out with a calendar, it would be unbelievable. Stephanie leaves frustrated and angry.

Chris Jericho & Kurt Angle vs. Rob Van Dam & Edge
- Angle and Jericho make their entrances first, followed by Edge and Rob Van Dam. Edge and Kurt Angle start things off with Angle getting the better of the altercation. Edge tags out to RVD and Van Dam overwhelms Angle, before Jericho enters the ring distracting RVD and allowing Angle to gain a momentary advantage. RVD reverses the advantage and goes for the five star splash, but Jericho interferes again and pushes him off the top rope. Jericho and Angle double team Van Dam with Jericho now the official man in the ring and hitting RVD with vicious kicks to the rib. Angle in now and he continues to work over Van Dam in the corner, especially after Jericho misses a head first charge and runs into the steel post. Angle goes for a belly to belly off the top but Van Dam fights him off and instead hits the five star splash. But he can't pin him and wanders over to Jericho who pulls RVD and clotheslines him over the top rope. Both men down, leading to double tags. Edge cleans house on Jericho and Angle as expected and hits the ankle-lock on Angle before Jericho knocks ihm down. Jericho misses a Lionsault on Edge allowing Edge to hit him with a spear. Angle interferes to keep the count on two. All four men in the ring now and Edge hits the Edge-E-Cution on Jericho but Angle sneaks in behind him and throws on the Angle Slam. Jericho rolls over top of the fallen Edge and gets the 1-2-3 with Van Dam and Angle fighting on the outside.

- Backstage, Ric Flair comes into the ring and meets with Arn Anderson. Flair says that he's been taking care of serious business. Anderson fills Flair in on what happened during the Vince/Austin altercation with Booker and Bossman attacking Austin. Flair can't believe it and tells Anderson to watch what he's gonna do as he heads to the ring, presumably for an announcement of some sorts.

- We return live and see Ric Flair emerging from the back and walking down the ramp to the ring. He asks the fans if Vince McMahon has been acting up again and we hear a positive response. He goes on to say that he endorses the Rock in his match against Booker T tonight. Flair then calls out Vince McMahon, saying that he has to face him at Royal Rumble where he has to be a wrestler. Stephanie McMahon comes rumbling through the audience and is held back by security. Flair tells them to let her go and Stephanie enters the ring. Flair asks Steph if she wants to talk to her. Steph takes the mic and says that letting her into this ring was a smart business decision. She then says that she's been impressed with Flair for a very long time - she's a Ric Flair fan. She's been watching wrestling for a long time and when she was little, she had a crush on the Nature Boy. But as she grew older, that crush turned into respect. She sucks up to Flair and says that she respects him so much that she sold him all her stock in the WWF. But when it comes to business, Flair just falls a little bit short. She says that with all due respect, he is the man but when it comes to business, she is the man. She has no doubt that he will annihiliate her father at Royal Rumble. Flair starts strutting around, bouncing off the ring ropes, etc. Stephanie gets upset and ends up slapping Flair. Stephanie then says that he needs her but he only has four days to make his decision because come this Monday when Triple H returns, the Game will really begin.

Tajiri vs. Test
- Back in the arena, Tajiri and Torrie Wilson make their way down to the ring. Test starts off the match dominating Tajiri, countering all of Tajiri's moves. He backs Tajiri into a corner and fires with right hands. Tajiri finally changes his fortunes with some of his patented kicks and elbows. He goes for the Tarantula but Test blocks it and throws him Tajiri across the top rope. Test goes for the big boot but Tajiri ducked underneath it and kicked Test in the face instead. Tajiri goes for another kick, but misses and ends up walking into the big boot. Test covers him and gets the 1-2-3.

- Backstage, Big Bossman asks Vince McMahon if he is worried that Stephanie McMahon may have been brought back. Vince says nah, because he's only considering it but what he is worried about is why Flair arrived late and what "BIG business" he is talking about. Booker T enters and Bossman and Vince brought up his match against the Rock. Booker responds "WHO" and the two answer the Rock, but Booker says "WHO" again. He says that tonight he will not only become the #1 contender, but he will debut his new catchphrase, WHO. Vince warns him that the fans may respond by saying WHAT, but Booker T tells him not to worry because this will be a hit and he will sell t-shirts like hotcakes.

- We see the Triple H promo and Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler once again re-iterate that Triple H will be returning this Monday on RAW straight from MSG.

- Backstage, Coach interviews Rock and asks him how his New Year was. Rock lets the fans chant his name before responding - "Finally, the Rock has come back to Washington, D.C." He says that his New Year was electrifying but he wants to know how Coach's New Year was. He asks Coach what he did - did he watch himself on TV, did he listen to music. He asks Coach who his favorite singer is. Coach responds Barry Manelow and asks him to sing for him. Coach goes nuts signing but Rock interrupts him and finally sends him out of the room. Rock shifts his attention to Booker T and says that he will stop at nothing to become the WWF champion. He talks about himself being born and how the nurses mistook the People's Strudel for his umbellical cord. He then wraps up his interview by saying that he will beat Booker T.

Booker T vs. Rock
- Booker T comes out first, followed by the Rock. Rock with the early advantage and going for a pin attempt but Booker kicks out at two. Booker T with a spinebuster allowing him to go on the offensive. Chops by Booker in the corner, eventually leading to a two count. Booker T taunting Rock telling him to get up. Rock does, Booker goes for the Ax kick but misses, allowing the Rock to charge back with several punches, sending him flying to the outside. Booker tries Irish Whip Rock into the steps, but Rock reverses it. Vince McMahon comes running down, low blows Rock and sends him back into the ring where Booker T nails the Ax kick. He goes for the pin but Rock kicks out at two. Vince is shocked, the fans cheer. Booker goes for another Irish Whip but Rock reverses it into a DDT. The ref counting both men as they lay on the mat. Rock slowly covers Booker T but Vince pulls out Earl Hebner. Flair comes running out and decks Vince. The two battle along the side and Flair sends Vince over the top and into the crowd. Back in the ring, Rock punching away at Booker and nails a Flying Lariat. Eye gouge by Booker but it doesn't faze Rock who hits a Spinebuster and goes for the People's Elbow. Bossman comes down and distracts Rock. Clothesline by Book and Rock sends Booker into Bossman. Booker turns around and walks into the Rock Bottom. Rock covers him for the 1-2-3. Rock will face Jericho at Royal Rumble.

- After the match, Bossman attacks Rock and hits the Bossman slam on Rock. Booker and Bossman double team Rock, with Booker T hitting the Book-End. Bossman starts pounding on Rock while several more officials enter the ring to stop the attack. The glass shatters and out comes Stone Cold Steve Austin, bandaged up and ready to fight. Austin enters and goes after Booker T. Bossman tries to blindside Austin but Austin handles him and clotheslines Booker to the outside. He then turns to Bossman stomping away and punching on him repeatedly. Booker T sneaks in from behind and clocks Austin with the chair. Austin and Rock are both laid out in the ring and Bossman and Booker T leave.
