WWE Presents Smackdown! Live
Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
Saturday September 11th 2004
Report by Peter Seal
Hey Rajah, just got back from the Smackdown! house show here in Edmonton...
fairly full crowd in a fairly small arena. It was absolutely awesome, I had
front row seats right beside the entrance pathway, so I had an incredible
view of the ring.
Tony Chimel came out first with a local radio dj, who proceded to ask the
fans to chant his name and "make his dream come true" by booing him out of
the building. They obliged. But onto the action...
Chimel introduced the G.M. of Smackdown!, Theodore R. Long, who welcomed the
crowd and informed us of three championship matches tonight. The sound
system was really crappy, so I didn't catch a lot of the promos, but i got
the basic gist from all of them.
1. FBI (Johnny the Bull & Nunzio) vs. the Basham Bros (Doug and Danny)
Nunzio picks up the clean pinfall in this one (one of the only clean matches
of the night).
2. Funaki vs. Heidenreich
Notable absence of Paul Heyman, Heidenreich takes the easy squash victory @
1:56.
Billy Kidman then comes out to address Paul London about losing the tag
titles on Smackdown! this
week. I couldn't hear the whole thing, but basically he bashed London and
told him to come out. When he did, he continued to talk down to him, but
London slapped him, and a brawl broke out. Before it could get out of hand,
Theodore Long came out to make the match official.
3. Billy Kidman vs. Paul London
Kidman gets the win @ 8:03 by using London's tights for leverage.
4. Charlie Haas (w/Miss Jackie) vs. Luther Reigns
Reigns wins via using the tights @ 4:19
5. Mark Jindrak vs. Scotty 2 Hotty
Jindrak wins @ 6:06 by using the middle rope, but Scotty gets his revenge by
giving him the worm after the match.
6. WWE Cruiserweight Championship- Rey Mysterio vs. Spike Dudley (Champ)
Spike picks up the victory @ 8:06 by pulling Rey's tights.
Next up was a 10 minute intermission, which ended up only being about 7
minutes.
7. Divas Match- Dawn Marie vs. Torrie Wilson
Both divas are extremely hot in person! Torrie got the win @ 3:03 after
pulling Dawn's top off.
8. WWE Tag Team Championships- Hardcore Holly & RVD vs Kenzo Suzuki
(w/Hiroko) & Rene
Dupree (Champs)
Kenzo Suzuki got the win after his "valet" Hiroko threw some sort of powder
into Holly's eyes.
Chimel thanks everyone for coming out, and announces the next match is the
final one of the night.
9. WWE Championship- Eddie Guererro vs. Kurt Angle vs. JBL (w/Orlando
Jordan)
JBL wins @ 7:56. After the match, Orlando Jordan and JBL double-team
Guererro, but he retaliates
and delivers the frog splash to both. JBL and Jordan are the last to leave,
but they cut a promo about 9/11 and the U.S., then proceed to sing "God
Bless America. With that, the show's over.
Top 5 Faces/Pops:
1. Eddie Guererro
2. RVD
3. Rey Mysterio
4. Torrie Wilson
5. Funaki
Top 5 Heels/Heat:
1. JBL/Orlando Jordan
2. Kurt Angle
3. Heidenreich
4. Rene Dupree
5. Luther Reigns
Overall, it was a fairly good show. Hopefully the WWE comes back to Edmonton
soon, with one of the T.V. shows.
WWE House Show Results (9/11/04) - Edmonton, Alberta
From: Austinfan4life aka Craig Woloshyn, rajah.com reader
The Show started off with Tony Chimel and The Bear radio show
representitive.....
Theodore R. Long came out to Holla at us....And Told us that there will Be 3
Championship matches. A Cruiserweight Championship Match, a Tag Team
Championship match, and a WWE Championship Match
Match 1. Tag Team Action
The Basham Brothers vs. The F.B.I.
Both Teams got fairly decent pops as it was the very first contest of the
evening. It was a funny first match becuase of the chants of "Danny does
Doug" some stuff like that.... The match ended with Palumbo back breaking
one of the bashams and Nunzo on the top rope hitting a Leg
Drop.....1.....2.......3!
Match 2. Funaki vs. Heidenrich
Tipical Squash match. Heidnrich is a Monster in person but still isn't very
impressive to me. After all Funaki did Heidenrich still got the 3.
Billy Kidman came down to the ring and started to yap about how he injured
Chavo and he was really getting some heat and called out Paul London saying
he wouldn't show up cause hes a looser. London then made his way to the
ring bandaged up. London slapped Kidman and ... out came Teddy Long. And he
made it official for the first time ever it would be Billy Kidman vs. Paul
London.
Match 3. Billy Kidman vs. Paul London
Good match. I am a big fan of the cruiserweight style and the pulled off a
good match. Kidman focused heavily on the shoulder of London. In the end
Kidman hit a Low Blow and rolled up London pulled the tights and got the
win.
Match 4. Charlie Haas vs. Luther Riegns
Well At the beginning of teh match I ran up to the rail and started watching
Miss jackie.. DAM!... Shes a Fox... Well I figured I myswell go by
merchandise during one of the smaller matches so I went and bought a few
shirts came back and Luther Riegns used the ropes and got the win.
INTERMISSION
Match 5. WWE Cruiserweight Championship
Spike Dudley vs. Rey Mysterio
Huge pop for Mysterio. And It was probubly the 2nd Best match of the night.
With both Highflyers doing some great moves including a 619 and a
frankenstiener off the top rope. The finish was Spike hitting Mysterio with
a rollup pin and pulling the tights for the 3 count.
Match 6. Dawn Marie vs. Torrie Wilson
God damm are they hot in person. Torrie's got one nice rack. And Dawn's
got that amazing ass. Well typical Diva match less than 5 Minutes and its
over. Finish was a roll up by Torrie Wilson for the Win... After the match
she tore Dawns top off.
Match 7. WWE Tag Team Championship
Kenzo Suzuki and Rene Dupree w/ Kenshi vs. Hardcore Holly and Rob Van Dam
Huge Pop too RVD. Huge "Hardcore Faggot" chant for Holly who later
applauded us. Good solid match RVD is awsome. Even contest Kenzo Suzuki
actually put a good match on in my opinion. In the end Holly was going for
the alabama slam but Kenshi threw powder into his eyes and The Foriegn
Powers got the win.
Main Event. Triple Threat Match for the WWE Championship
John "Bradhsaw" Layfield vs. Eddie Guerrero vs. Kurt Angle
I thought that this was awsome that Eddie Guerrero came down to the ring in
classic style with a nice Lowrider with hydrolics. I was sitting on the 7th
row on the opposite side so I couldn't quite tell what car it was, I think
It was a Pinto. Then Kurt Angle came out to some great U Suck chants. And
Finally the Champion JBL came to the ring with his Limo and accompanied by
his chief of staff Orlando Jordan. The match was really good I'd say Best
of the Night. It was hilarious how at one point Kurt and Eddie teamed up
with eachother on beating up JBL and one would try to out do the other. I
thought that was great. But all great things come to an end when they start
turning on eachother and the finish was Angle having Eddie in the Ankle Lock
and Bradshaw hitting the Clothesline from Hell on Kurt for the 3 Count.
Post Match: Eddie Guerrero pumeled Orlando Jordan and hit the Frog Splash.
Orlando was lying in the ring until he finally was helped out by Hebner and
JBL got up and they sang "God Bless America" to end off the show. All in
all I think it was a good event
Biggest Pops:
1. Eddie Guerrero and RVD
2. Rey Mysterio
3. Kurt Angle ( The "U SUCK" Chants...lol.)
