Good & Bad News For WWE, The Rock, Chris Nowinski; more

WWE got both good and bad news in the early buyrate number for the Royal Rumble pay-per-view. On the plus side, they did about 450,000 buys, which is best that they have done on a pay show since last year's SummerSlam. On the other hand, that is, by far, the lowest number that they have done for "the precursor to WrestleMania" in the last four years. The 2002 show scored about 670,000 buys. 2003 did about 500,000 while last year's Rumble did about 590,000. As an indicator for the WrestleMania buyrate, which is generally looked at as the barometer that sets the financial course for WWE's year, that isn't a great sign.

Last night’s edition of WWE Smackdown did a 3.7 overnight rating, with a five share, on UPN. The final number will be released later today.

According to today’s Boston Globe, Chris Nowinski will be taking part in the ninth public forum at Harvard University's Eating Disorders Center. Nowinski is still out of action due to the many concussions he suffered during his short career.

There is a story over at ContactMusic.com that noted that The Rock is in negotiations to play comic superheroes Sub Mariner and The Silver Surfer in upcoming movies.
