Show was a sell-out, which is 16 or 17 thousand I think... This is my 1st WWE show, and my 2nd live report. Hope you enjoy.
Show started out with Chimmel coming out and welcoming us. Then he introduced SmackDown! General Manager Theodore Long, who came out to a pretty good pop. Teddy ran us through the main matches, which included a Fatal 4-Way for the Cruiserweight Championship, between Scotty 2 Hottie, SmackDown!'s Number 1 Announcer Funaki, Spike Dudley and the Champ, Paul London. Teddy told us that we'd see a WWE Tag Title match, which got a big pop, between Angle and Reigns and the champions Eddie and Rey Rey. The champs got big pops. Then he told us that the main event would be a tag team match with JBL and Orlando Jordan taking on the 7'2" Big Show, and the NEW WWE Champion John Cena. Show and Cena got huge pops.
CHARLIE HAAS & HARDCORE HOLLY VS. THE BASHAMS
Big pop for Haas and Holly, because the crowd was pumped. This was the first WWE match ever to take place in Adelaide. Lots of Holly and Charlie chants during this one. Started of fairly quickly, with Holly hitting a series of quick armdrags. Charlie came in and The Bashams double teamed, and tried to use a slow pace, spending a good deal of the match with Charlie in an abdominal stretch. Holly got very angry with The Bashams getting extra leverage on the abdominal stretch with the other Basham pulling his brothers hand. Eventually, Charlie got a tag to Holly, who cleaned house, before the Bashams double teamed again. Finally, the faces got the heels on the run, and as Charlie held the leg of one Basham to stop him getting back in the ring, Holly hit the Alabama Slam for the win.
CRUISERWEIGHT SHAMPIONSHIP MATCH
SCOTTY 2 HOTTY VS. FUNAKI VS. SPIKE DUDLEY VS. PAUL LONDON (C)
London looked good, indicating that the injury spot in Melbourne was just that. Match stated out with London and Funaki on the outside, while Scotty dragged Spike around by the beard. Good, fast paced match for the most, but the crowd was surprisingly quiet, but London got decent pops when he hit the high flying stuff. Scotty however got the biggest pop of the night when he went for a double Worm on Spike and Funaki. Spike rolled out of the ring, but he hit it on Funaki, and the crowd was happy. London was right in front of us, and you could see him spelling out W O R M with the crowd. London won with the London Calling on Spike.
MARK JINDRAK VS. RENE DUPREE
Crowd was reasonably dead, but Dupree got decent heat. Got several 'You are a Wanker' chants throughout the match. Not too many decent spots in this match. Dupree got the win when he catapulted Jindrak into the exposed turnbuckle for the 3.
WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP
EDDIE GUERRERO & REY MYSTERIO (c) VS. KURT ANGLE & LUTHER REIGNS
Ray came out first, followed by Eddie. Both got huge pops when the came out. Kurt got the 'You Suck' chants in his intro as usual. I have to say, if you haven't seen Eddie live, you really can't appreciate him to his full extent. This was the first time I've seen him, and I'm now a big Eddie fan. This was a great match, and it was given plenty of time. Eddie and Angle were in the ring for the majority, and worked brilliantly together. There were lots of 'Eddie' and '619' chants during the match, and Angle got his fair share of 'You are a Wanker' chants. Early on, Angle pulled Eddie's hair, so in retaliation, Eddie pulled the straps on Angle's tights. Angle complained to the ref, and Eddie said that if Angle can pull his hair, then it's only fair that he can pull Angle's straps, and proceeded to show the ref what he did, pulling the straps back and flicking them back at Kurt. The next 5 or so mins was Angle putting Eddie in a headlock, Eddie Irish whipping his way out of it, and then stopping Angle by pulling his tights. The crowd loved it. Eventually, Kurt pulled his straps down to stop Eddie from doing it. Not long after, Eddie went for a sunset flip, and used Kurt's tights to pull him down. However the tights were the only thing that came down, and Kurt bailed. He and Reigns were about to leave, but the ref convinced them to come back to the ring. Eddie then once again proceeded to pull down Kurt's tights, and Kurt bailed once again.
While the heels had the advantage, they double teamed (Rey mainly). Eddie let his emotions get the better of him, and the ref kept telling him to stay in the corner and hold onto the tag rope. So Eddie undid the rope from the corner, tied it to the rope itself, and then walked up and down the apron. When the ref went to the corner to tell him to hold the tag rope, it wasn't there.
The match finished with Eddie hitting a drop toe hold on Kurt onto the ropes, Rey hitting a 619, and Eddie hitting the frog splash for the 3.
At this point, we had in intermission, and Chimmel through some shirts into the crowd.
DIVA'S MATCH
DAWN MARIE VS. TORRIE WILSON
Dawn came out first, wearing a red top and tight black pants. Torrie came out to a big pop, wearing a small black and silver top, and very short pink shorts. Before the match even got started, Carlito came out and talked trash on Australia, and Adelaide in particular. He then said that Torrie Wilson was not cool, making Dawn say that she was cool. Carlito said that we all came to see him and his apple, and for him to spit in someone's face, but we weren't cool enough. So he said he was going to take Torrie out the back and give her a good time, cos that's cool. Torrie resisted, and eventually Carlito left the ring, and the match got underway. Only lasted a few mins, with Torrie winning with a rollup.
Post match, Dawn held Torrie while Carlito came in the ring, and took a bite of the apple. He was about to spit it at Torrie, when she gave him a low blow. Torrie through Dawn out of the ring, grabbed the apple and took a bite. She celebrated until Heidenreich came out, who then grabbed the apple and began to eat it and smash it into his head. This lead into...
HEIDENREICH VS. BOOKER T
Booker got a good pop as he came out. Reasonably quick match. Booker did the Spinaroonie, and then won the match with a 2nd scissors kick, after Heidenreich dodged the first one.
JBL & WWE UNITED STATES CHAMPION ORLANDO JORDAN VS. THE BIG SHOW & THE NEW WWE CHAMPION JOHN CENA
JBL and Jordan came out first to big heat, and JBL cut a promo on how the West of Australia hates us, the East of Australia hates us, and he hates us. He then bagged Australian Rules Football, saying it was a game for men wearing tiny shorts and tight shirts. Big Show came out to a huge pop, followed by Cena, and the noise was amazing. Before a punch was thrown, JBL offered Cena and Show a chance to give up then and there, and bow down before them. The faces said no, and Cena got ready to take on JBL. JBL then tagged to Jordan, which started up a 'You are a Wanker' chant, before a Pussy' one from the crowd. Show then motioned to JBL that he was a big pussy. Cena then tagged to Big Show, which caused Jordan to tag JBL back in. Another 'Pussy' chant followed. The match went back and forward, with lots of chants for the faces. Cena hit the 5 knuckle shuffle on JBL, and in the process, straightened the ref's collar. Bashams interfered during the match, and Big Show proceeded to lay all 4 of his opponents out. Show hit a Chokeslam on Jordan, but one of the Bashams pulled the ref out of the ring after 2. JBL hit Cena with the Clothesline From Hell, but the ref was still out. He called for a new ref, but Cena kicked out at 2. Cena went on to hit the FU for the 3. Post match, the refs made the 'X' signal for Big Show, who was helped out. Cena got on the mic and told the crowd that tonight, there was a 7'2", 500 lbs member of the chain gang who helped him out, and that now we needed to help him out. The crowd gave Show a huge pop as he left, and then Cena continued to cut a promo. He talked about how in Aussie Rules Football our guys don't use any padding, and how they were really tough. We talked about the fact that the crowd in Adelaide had made it easy for him to do what he does. He thanked us, and said that he's loved being in Australia, and that he can't wait to get back here. Then he said how hard we made it for him, how hard it was to leave, and that it was his last night down under, which got boos. He looked around, and he said he couldn't see a single empty seat (and neither could I). He said that he wanted us to remember the feeling for the rest of our lives. He never wants us to forget what it sounded like when the crowd cheered so loud that you thought the roof was going to cave in. He thanked us all for coming, and said that all the guys in the back do what they do for the fans. Then he asked the crowd to make as much noise as they could. It was a truly amazing moment. Cena headed to the back, and Chimmel thanked us for coming, and said that they'd be back in the near future.
Overall, it was a very enjoyable show, and I'm looking forward to seeing them again soon.
