WWE Sunday Night Heat Report-1st May 2005
By Shaun Best-Rajah.Com Reporter

Welcome aboard everyone, Edge vs Chris Benoit is the first rivalry to be chronicled since Money In The Bank at Wrestlemania. Lilian Garcia interviewed Christian with Tyson Tomko. Lilian asks about Christian's quest for main event status and asks why he isn't competing tonight. Christian responds by talking about dealing with matters at hand saying Tomko deals with problems and that tonight's problem is Val Venis. Onto Backlash and Christian has a question for Lilian asking if she worked out he's not wrestling on the PPV all by herself as he's proud of her and she's smarter than she looks. Christian says fear not, he wouldn't do that to his Peeps and will make a special appearance that will make people stand up and take notice as to why he deserves to be in the main event. He has something he's working on that he wasn't going to tell anyone about and offers to run it by Lilian and leans forward then yells it's a surprise. Lilian is left stunned as Christian and Tomko laugh then walk off. We see a Pedigree promo and the effects it has. Six weeks ago fans queued for six days to get Backlash tickets. Heat is brought to you by Smoothy Mix Skittles, Stacker 2 XPLC and Truth Tobacco produced American comedy hit Fair Enough. The Muhammad Hassan and Daivari vs Hulk Hogan and Shawn Michaels match is hyped and now Lilian is back again to interview Hassan and Daivari. Lilian asks for their thoughts on facing HBK and Hogan. Hassan says they beat the World Tag Champs last week and they have what it takes to beat HBK and Hogan. No matter how legendary they might be it's their first night as a team. Daivari says Hogan's back for one more match and he and Hassan say he's coming back for his last match. Hassan concludes by saying in the midst of a USA chant that it's only fitting that in the state of New Hampshire where the motto is live free or die Hulkamania will no longer live free and tonight Hulkamania will die. Highlights of the Raw Wrestlemania Revenge Tour that hit Europe two weeks ago air. The Kane/Lita/Viscera/Trish history is recapped with highlights of Viscera's attempts to score with Trish. I'm starting to like Viscera. I know I never thought I'd say that either. Batista is shown arriving to the arena in a suave red mercedes. The official theme of Backlash is "Stronger" by Trust Company taken from the album "True Parallels" available now. The complete Backlash card is quickly run through. It's Match time now folks so let's get to the action.

Val Venis vs Tyson Tomko
JR and The King are calling this one. As Val chucks his towel King reminds us that Backlash is brought to you by Raw and Tekken 5. Tomko enters and Val gets the crowd behind him. Collar and elbow tie up leads to a jostle in the ropes and Tomko shoves Val away. Val with a go-behind followed by a series of takedowns. Tomko locks up with Val again, Val pokes him in the eye and Tomko drops to his knees favouring his eyesocket. He's lost a contact lens LOL. Val is arguing with the referee, Tomko gets up and blindsides Val with a punch that knocks him down. Tomko with a stomp and mounted punches on the canvas. Tomko punches Val down then drives Val to the corner where he chokes then delivers a battering ram. Tomko with a charge, Val moves and schoolboys Tomko for a two count. Tomko quickly clotheslines Val, two count. Tomko with a slam. Tomko off the ropes misses with a diving forearm, Val goes to the corner, Tomko charges but crashes face first into the turnbuckles. Val off the ropes, clothesline. Val with a backelbow. Val with a clothesline in the corner. Val delivers ten short arm clotheslines in the corner. Val with a sitdown powerbomb for two. Val scores with a knife edge chop, Tomko cuts off a whip to the ropes, Val ducks Tomko's swing and hits a half nelson slam. Val signals for the Money Shot. Val gets to the second rope and Tomko gets up, series of punches to Val. Tomko tries to grab and throw Val down, Val staves him off with punches. Tomko attempts to climb, punches Val, gets down, goes back up and punches Val who is still perched on the second rope. Val shoves off Tomko, clears the cobwebs and goes to climb to the top rope but Tomko gets up and charges again. Tomko with more punches, grabs Val and goes to throw him off but Val counters into a rollup for two. (They did this as a finish not so long ago on Heat). Tomko with a knee to the gut, clubs Val's back, Tomko runs the ropes, Val with a punch, now Val runs the ropes into a big boot from Tomko. Tomko covers but Val grabs the bottom rope at two. Tomko argues with the referee, picks up Val, Val blocks Tomko's suplex attempts, Val punches Tomko's back, Fisherman suplex by Val 1-2-kickout. Val with a punch, Tomko reverses into the ropes no instead he applies a sleeper. Val backelbows free, knife edge chop, Val runs the ropes, Tomko scores with a second big boot and this time that's it. 1-2-3. Here is Your Winner: TYSON TOMKO.

There's some hype and highlights showcasing the main event to close out the show. In my opinion the first two matches at Backlash were my favourites. I kept thinking Tomko and Christian were going to enter Tag Team Turmoil. I marvelled at Shelton's athleticism. Benoit sold like the champion he is and Captain Charisma was gold on the mic. Next SmackDown! champ. Glad Batista went over, Trish was hot, Viscera was funny. Loved the Hardy heat for Edge and Lita. Long may it continue. A lot of filler time on the card and I didn't enjoy Hogan at all. I've had enough of him. HBK deserves better. Thought Masters would put the Masterlock on King. Oh well, I'll be back next weekend with Velocity and Heat. Until then take care and have a good week. Later Shaun.
