John Cena on Best Damn Sports Show Period
George Dafnos Reporting

On Wednesday night, WWE Champion and new RAW Superstar John Cena was a guest on the Best Damn Sports Show Period. Cena gets introduced and right off the bat, John Salley has to get a good look at the redesigned WWE championship belt. Rob Dibble mentions that he's heard that Cena grew up a huge fan of the wrestling business and Cena adds that even up to a few years ago he still went to the events holding up signs and collecting figures. Gary Payton lets Cena know that he's a big fan and so is his son. Payton then proceeds to give a bad impression of Cena. Salley mentions that most athletes are huge fans of wrestling. Cena says that he wishes that they could incorporate more of sports into wrestling but since the seasons don't really coincide it's pretty hard to do. He hopes that more athletes will come out to the events to support the business.

Chris Rose compares John Cena with Cleveland Cavaliers superstar Lebron James in that both of them were the #1 picks in their respective drafts. Cena mentions that he's spent the last two and a half years on Smackdown and has never been on RAW. He says that it's "a huge move". He came into the company when the brands were split so it's as if he were starting from scratch. It's a whole new audience, a whole new show, a whole new timeslot. It's a lot more racy and it's a lot more on edge, so he has to step his game up and "keep his skills right". Salley asks him about his throwback jersey style. Cena says that he usually tries to wear a jersey of someone who not only is retired but also whose number is already in the rafters. The reason he wears the jerseys is not only to represent the cities he goes to but to let the cities know that there are heroes in every region in America and you've got to give respect to the athletes. Rob Dibble offers him a Cincinnati Reds jersey that he ripped off in Shea Stadium. Cena said that not only will he wear it, he'll come out with a whiffleball and try to throw it 102 MPH.

Gary Payton brings up Cena's rap CD and wonders what people think of him as a rapper. Cena states that a lot of hip hop is fabricated, but that he never hides what he is. He is from West Newbury, Massachusetts. But that it's not about where you are from or what you've been through, it's about how you relay your message. Cena wishes that he could keep up with his Boston teams, but he can't with his wrestling work heating up lately. He even gives a quick "bring hockey back" statement. They show a quick clip of the "Bad, Bad, Man" music video. Salley asks John to freestyle a little bit right on the show. Cena composes himself and lets a few lines out:

"Just let me kick a little sport flow
It's John Cena on the Best Damn Sports Show
I'm nothing but net, like Payton from long range
I got a Big Unit, so I'm going for long change
You on top? I'm gonna pass y'all
I throw the high heat, like a Rob Dibble fastball
Beats is nice, flow is astounding
I pitch a perfect game, like my name is Tom Browning
Yeah, that's right and we keep it sparking
Sweet swing like Eric Davis or Barry Larkin
I'm a bad boy, like Salley and Laimbeer
This show is blessed, man, the champ's up in here"

Chris Rose ends the interview by plugging John Cena's WWE Title defense in the triple threat match against Christian and Chris Jericho. He also plugs Cena's CD, "You Can't See Me" and RAW on SpikeTV.
