In a backstage meeting held at last night's RAW/SmackDown! Supershow, management informed the talent that there would be several superstars released from their contracts within the next month. There was nobody individually singled out during the meeting, but it is expected that there will be 5-10 cuts made.
There are several reasons behind the upcoming layoffs. When WWE jumps from SpikeTV to the USA Network in October, they will be losing HeAT and Experience, with Velocity being the only regularly scheduled weekend programming. Additionally, with the domestic house show business in a slump and the recent acquisitions of Juventud, Psicosis, Super Crazy and CM Punk, they simply can't have as many superstars with downside guarantees on their payroll.
