WWE management has taken many steps over the last year to make the backstage area a more professional environment. A dress code was implemented, wrestlers were strongly encouraged to show up to the arena earlier than usual and more recently, playing videogames was prohibited. The crackdowns continue, as WWE has begun fining wrestlers who do not arrive to the arena on time.
At last week's SmackDown! television tapings, WWE management had somebody sit by the backstage entrance and record the names of wrestlers who arrived late. No talent received special treatment in this situation. Lower-card talent like Scotty Too Hotty and the Mexicools as well as main-eventers, including JBL, Randy Orton and even World Heavyweight Champion Dave Batista were among those who received fines. Add these lateness fines to the long list of factors contributing to the low morale plaguing the SmackDown! locker-room.
