Backstage News On Chris Jericho’s Contract Status With AEW

Pro wrestling legend Chris Jericho made his return to AEW on last week’s episode of Dynamite, and he also appeared on the latest episode to discuss his comeback.

According to the latest edition of Fightful Select Answers Q&A, Jericho has signed a new deal with the company. It was previously noted that his contract was extended due to his time off, but Sean Ross Sapp indicated that Jericho will be “there for the foreseeable future.”

While this news isn't surprising, a fan asked why he was simply announced as “Jericho.” Jericho is still going by his full name, which is how he is listed on the roster page. Sapp also mentioned that he is still working to gather all the details regarding Jericho’s contract.

AEW President and CEO Tony Khan explained during his appearance on Coach and Bro that Jericho was a free agent and “chose” to sign with AEW. He noted that, contrary to a common misconception, wrestlers can speak to other companies while under contract.

While there are some restrictions early in the contracts, by the time they approach the end of their deals, legal action over such matters would not make sense. “Contract tampering” is not a real issue in professional wrestling, unlike in professional sports, which have unions and player associations.
