Backstage News On Recent Major Changes To The Production Of AEW Shows

According to Fightful Select, All Elite Wrestling (AEW) has implemented several significant changes to their show production over the past year. These changes included adjustments in pyro effects and weekly modifications to lighting. A notable shift for some time was the removal of LED aprons and barricades from television broadcasts. Instead, AEW opted for a more simplified presentation featuring standard barricades and traditional ring aprons.

The report states that this all changed with the launch of AEW’s new television deal with HBO Max earlier this year, which reintroduced the LED boards. At the Forbidden Door event, both fans and talent observed that the new setups had an impact on the wrestlers' performances, and not in a positive way. The LED surfaces were found to be rougher for taking bumps.

Additionally, the report mentions that the previous decision to move away from LED aprons and barricades was primarily motivated by concerns for the wrestlers' safety and audience feedback. Several wrestlers reportedly sustained injuries while working with the LED equipment, which is harder and protrudes more than traditional setups. While the old-school barricades are preferred for safety and comfort, there is also recognition of the visual appeal that LED boards add to broadcasts.
