Backstage News On Why The Beast Mortos Was Allowed To Compete In Arena Mexico Last Wednesday Night

This past Wednesday, AEW Grand Slam: Mexico featured The Beast Mortos competing in the 10-Man Tag Team main event as a last-minute replacement for Claudio Castagnoli of The Death Riders.

According to Fightful Select, AEW President and CEO Tony Khan personally requested permission from Salvador Lutteroth Lomeli to use Mortos. The report also indicated that the company had to make changes due to the unavailability of Cash Wheeler and Claudio Castagnoli. However, CMLL was reportedly very accommodating.

This match marked Mortos' return to Arena Mexico after a 14-year absence; he last wrestled there in 2011. Since debuting in AEW in 2024, Mortos has competed in various events across both AEW and ROH, often appearing in trios matches and high-stakes singles bouts. Later in 2024, Mortos joined forces with RUSH and Dralistico as part of a revamped La Facción Ingobernable.
