The main event of this past Saturday’s WWE WrestlePalooza premium live event (PLE) saw Undisputed WWE Champion “The American Nightmare” Cody Rhodes score a clean victory over Drew McIntyre after hitting the Crossroads. However, this finish was reportedly not the original plan.
According to Bodyslam.net (via Ringside News), Randy Orton was initially scheduled to interfere in the match, accidentally costing Cody the title to McIntyre. The idea was for Rhodes to chase the championship, continue his rivalry with McIntyre, and eventually face an Orton heel turn once he regained the belt.
Instead, WWE opted for a clean finish with no outside involvement, allowing Rhodes to retain. Following the event, WWE pivoted to set up Cody Rhodes vs. Seth Rollins for the Crown Jewel PLE next month.
