WWE's WrestleMania 42 card is in the final stages of being put together with a dozen matches already on the slate. On the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer had an update on a big match that was announced on Raw last night.
According to Meltzer, WWE had planned for Seth Rollins to take on Gunther for "several weeks" and the storyline over the last few weeks with Rollins and Paul Heyman was to build towards this, culminating in Gunther choking out Rollins.
While many suspected that Rollins/Gunther ended up being announced for WrestleMania perhaps due to Bron Breakker not getting medically cleared, Meltzer notes that is the not the case at all as he reports that Breakker is indeed cleared but WWE creative made the decision not to rush into a Rollins/Breakker match. However, the idea remains on the table and likely to happen sooner rather than later but that WWE would like TV time to properly build to it.
Finally, Meltzer stated that Gunther being chosen as the opponent Rollins actually was triggered by Bronson Reed's injury as the Vision and the Usos were originally slated to do a celebrity tag team match that would have also involved IShowSpeed and Logan Paul. All of this elimination both Reed and Paul as possible opponents for Rollins.
