Backstage Update On Recently Released WWE Star Now Working As A Producer For NXT

It was previously reported that former WWE star Shayna Baszler was listed as a producer for the one-on-one match between Kelani Jordan and Lainey Reid on the recent Great American Bash go-home episode of NXT. Baszler later revealed on a Twitch stream that she attended the tapings and was in communication via headset during the show. She also mentioned that she is still technically under contract with WWE, as her non-compete period has now ended.

Dave Meltzer discussed this on the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, noting that Baszler’s non-compete clause prevents her from wrestling anywhere else until approximately August 2nd. He also pointed out that more attention was given to this situation than it warranted, as Baszler has been backstage and has produced other matches in NXT before, but this was the first time it became publicly known. Meltzer clarified that she has not taken a full-time role as an agent; rather, she is contributing because she is already present at the events and was asked to do so.

Baszler was released by WWE last May and during her Twitch stream, she expressed interest in returning to Japan. Regarding a potential long-term producer role, Baszler shared her thoughts by saying, “Yeah, could the possibility be there? Sure. I would have to decide if I’m ready to be done. But that’s a whole other thing, you know what I mean? I still think I have some stories to tell, maybe?”
