As previously reported, the Asuka vs. IYO SKY match was originally listed internally for WrestleMania 42. However, it was not included in the final announced card and did not appear in the official card reveal on ESPN on April 7th.
Recent WWE programming featured elements that seemed to build toward this match. For instance, Asuka participated in a taped interview segment on WWE RAW on April 6th, and IYO SKY posted a social media teaser referencing Allegiant Stadium, the venue for WrestleMania 42.
In the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer noted that the status of the match is still uncertain. Whether it will take place depends on the desired length of the show and the amount of time allocated for the six matches on the card. Meltzer also mentioned that WWE has a backup plan for holding the match at a later event. One possibility being considered is Backlash, scheduled for May 9th, but this decision is also still up in the air.
