CM Punk Says Vince McMahon's Exit Facilitated His Return To WWE

-- Denise Salcedo of Instinct Culture caught up with WWE superstar CM Punk at the San Diego Comic-Con yesterday for a quick interview in which he was asked about his return to WWE after nearly a decade long absence. Punk noted that a lot of pieces had to fall in place for the return to happen, specifically calling out Vince McMahon's departure from the company as a development that "illuminated" his path back but not something he was itching to do:

"It was never like a thing I was yearning to do. There was a lot of things that had to happen for that pathway to kind of clear. The stars had to align, there had to be like a full moon and a lot of dominos fell in order for us to get here. There was never a 'man, I'd really like to go back'...Vince being out of picture…I think probably illuminated the way. I think that might have been one of the biggest things. And that was both ways for everyone who's gonna sensationalize the headline. t wasn’t me, it wasn’t him, it was…just there’s a lot of history there. All of a sudden, one of us got removed from the equation and it changed a lot of things."

"If WWE was the place it is today back then, I never would have left. All the things that happened...all the arguments and the butting of heads, the being injured and burnt out, and feeling like those in a managerial role weren’t listening..that doesn’t exist in the current atmosphere. I think what makes my return so special is because of all the history...because of all the time passed and now we’re here and it’s a happy moment for me. I’m just grateful to be here."
