Friday Night SmackDown Quick Recap for July 1, 2022

Matches Tonight: Three (approx. 34 minutes)
  • Battle Royal: Drew McIntyre vs Sheamus vs Riddle vs Omos w/ MVP vs Seth Rollins vs Sami Zayn vs Ezekiel vs Happy Corbin vs Madcap Moss vs the Miz. Before the trolls cry, there was a Royal Rumble battle royal decades before a Royal Rampage battle royal. Highlights of the match include Seth Rollins eliminating himself to avoid Omos. Ultimately, Corbin managed to steal the win from Drew McIntyre in the over-the-top elimination match. 8:13-8:30pm EST.
  • "Battle of the Brands" Six-Woman Tag Team Match: Raw's Alexa Bliss, Asuka, & Liv Morgan vs SmackDown's Raquel Rodriguez, Lacey Evans, & Shotzi. The Raw team made their way out at 8:54; the match started at 9:01, meaning Asuka/Bliss/Liv had to wait seven minutes for the match to start. Asuka/Bliss/Liv were rewarded for their patience, however, as they pulled off the win after a short match before a dead crowd. 9:01-9:05pm EST.
  • Money in the Bank Qualifying Fatal 4-Way Main Event Match: Ezekiel vs Happy Corbin vs Madcap Moss vs the Miz. Madcap Moss picked up the win and is added to the MitB match. 9:44-9:57pm EST.
Miscellaneous Non-Match Segments of Note:
  • Men in the Bank: We opened with our six known (out of seven slots) Men's Money in the Bank contestants in the ring and on mics. Everyone takes turns taking jabs. Finally Ezekiel, Happy Corbin, Madcap Moss and the Miz all come out to make an argument to fill the final spot. This set up a battle royal for our first match. 8:02-8:10pm EST.
  • Maximum Male Models Debut (for real): Mace--formerly rhymed with "ace", his name now rhymes with "ma-say" and is spelled weird--is the first member, finally announced tonight. Mansoor is now "man-swah" and sported a new trendy look, as did Mace. Weird, cringe-filled segment in which Dupri hyped up the newly-repackaged Mace and Mansoor, both sporting new model-esque looks (and in Mansoor's case, a full beard and short hair). Lots of innuendos from the former Eli Drake/LA Knight. YouTube it, I'm not describing its wretchedness well. 9:33-9:40pm EST.
  • Announced Match (That Never Happened): the New Day vs the Viking Raiders. The New Day began their entrance at 8:40; we went to commercial break at 8:43; we returned at 8:46, they were given mic time at 8:47, and we actually started the action at 8:50, meaning the New Day sat with the crowd listening to their theme on repeat/and entertaining the crowd for TEN minutes. Just a random stat from a boring, and short, segment that saw the Viking Raiders dismantle the New Day prior to the bell, meaning no match for us, folks. 8:40-8:52pm EST.
Commercial Break Tracker: 35 Mins of Ads*:
  • Break 1: 8:10-8:13pm; Break 2: 8:19-8:22pm; Break 3: 8:31-8:35pm; Break 4: 8:43-8:46pm; Break 5: 8:55-9:00pm EST;
  • Break 6: 9:05-9:09pm; Break 7: 9:17-9:20pm; Break 8: 9:28-9:31pm; Break 9: 9:42-9:46pm; Break 10: 9:51-9:54pm EST.

*For reference, the industry standard average is 16 minutes of commercials & 44 minutes of programming per hour of broadcast air time.
