Kairi Sane's WWE Contract Finally Expiring Next Month; News on Possible Appearance for AEW

-- Former NXT women's champion Kairi Sane left WWE in the summer of 2020 but has remained under contract to the company, serving as an ambassador in Japan. Sane expressed a desire to return to Japan after getting married early in the year and let the company know that she wouldn't be renewing her contract. In the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it was reported that her deal with WWE is finally coming to an end in February and at that time, she could choose to wrestle in Japan or even sign some sort of new contract with AEW that would allow her to wrestle only on specific shows while still being based in her home country.

-- Fightfulselect.com adds that while some people in WWE aren't convinced that Sane is done with the company, most expect her to simply let her current contract expire. It was previously suspected internally within WWE that the threat of Sane signing with AEW was extremely low and that it was "so far off of her radar" and not something WWE had to "worry about." However, times have changed and the feeling now is that while WWE doesn't expect her in AEW full-time, it would be a surprise if she doesn't eventually make an appearance there.
