Latest Update On Trey Miguel’s AEW Release And Reported Company Frustration

As previously reported, former TNA Wrestling star Trey Miguel was released from AEW after initially signing with the company alongside his Rascalz stablemates. Since his departure, Miguel’s exit has been a significant topic of discussion. Reports suggest that the decision to release him was made at a level above AEW and even beyond Tony Khan himself. Miguel later announced that he would be taking a hiatus from professional wrestling.

According to Fightful Select, the decision indeed came from higher up within the organization, with indications that it originated from Warner Bros. Discovery. The report also highlighted that Miguel's release was linked to comments he made on Facebook in 2020, in which he responded to an online troll in a homophobic manner. Although he apologized for those comments immediately after making them, they seemingly influenced the decision to let him go.

Additionally, the report stated that, despite speculation, there were no other posts or incidents contributing to his release, meaning that his comments directed at David Starr during their verbal exchanges were not a factor. It noted that both the Rascalz and Miguel maintain good relationships within AEW, and company higher-ups expressed frustration over the decision.

Many in the company perceived a double standard, pointing out that several prominent individuals who have appeared on WBD programming have made controversial comments without facing similar repercussions. The report emphasized that no one within AEW was responsible for Miguel’s firing, and TNA sources noted that he had no issues during his time with them. Notably, no one in AEW supported his release.

Fightful sought comments from various WBD sources, one of whom stated off the record, “I can’t speak to the validity of rumors, but I can’t say I agree the decision if true. If it were an unhealthy pattern of behavior, that’s cause for alarm, but that does not seem to be the case here.”
