It was previously reported that Samoa Joe made a shocking announcement via a Twitter video that he is relinquishing the NXT Title due to an injury. Joe also revealed that the WWE medical has informed him due to the injuries he sustained they would like him to step away from the ring for a brief amount of time, but it was not mentioned exactly how long he would be out of action. Joe then said he knows NXT will be welcoming a new era and that era deserves a fighting champion, which he can't be at this time but he will return and re-claim what is his.
NXT General Manager William Regal recently gave an update on the NXT Title situation and he announced via the official Twitter account of WWE NXT that a 4-Way #1 Contender’s Match will be taking place on tonight's revamp episode of NXT TV and the competitors of the match will be Kyle O'Reilly, LA Knight, Tommaso Ciampa and Pete Dunne, where the winner will be crowned the new NXT Champion.
