Top AEW star Swerve Strickland has been dealing with a meniscus tear since 2019. Despite this injury, he participated in the AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door pay-per-view this past Sunday, where he challenged the reigning Unified Champion, "The Rainmaker" Kazuchika Okada, for the championship.
Following the match, Strickland was written off AEW TV after being assaulted by Okada. Both Bodyslam.net and Fightful have reported that Strickland will undergo surgery this week. Fightful has confirmed that the surgery is scheduled for August 27th.
