Friday Night SmackDown

WWE Friday Night SmackDown Quick Recap for December 17, 2021

Matches Tonight: Five
  • Tag Match: Toni Storm & Sasha Banks vs Shotzi & SmackDown Women's Champion Charlotte Flair. Slow-starter that improved massively as the match went on. All four women had ample time to showcase their skills, and Storm & Banks picked up the win after a nearly twenty-minute match. 8:08-8:27pm EST.
  • Tag Match: the Viking Raiders vs Jinder Mahal & Shanky. Decent match that saw the Viking Raiders pick up the win. Shanky was booked as a giant, albeit a fallible one. 8:43-8:48pm EST.
  • Singles Match: Ridge Holland w/ Sheamus vs Cesaro. Cesaro, ribs bandaged, was attacked before the match. Holland won the short match after a break. 9:11-9:14pm EST.
  • Singles Match: Naomi vs Shayna Baszler. After another bait-and-switch from WWE Official Sonya Deville--who continues to dodge Naomi--Baszler found herself rolled up within moments of the start of the match despite ambushing Naomi prior to the bell. 9:21-9:22pm EST.
  • Non-Title Tag Main Event Match: the New Day vs SmackDown Tag Team Champions the Usos. The New Day picked up the win after yet another solid match. 9:30-9:39pm EST.
Miscellaneous Non-Match Segments of Note:
  • Happy Talk: Corbin announced the newest addition to Happy Talk--the desk with Drew McIntyre's sword, Angela, stuck in it. He mocks that it is a multi-toll, and can serve as a cheese cutter or hat holder. Madcap makes a joke: "What do you call Drew McIntyre when he leaves his sword behind in a desk? The Glasgow...ditz." As usual, the joke is met with a swamp of boos and, as expected, the banter leads to McIntyre entering and destroying the duo after they failed to be able to remove the sword from the desk (think: King Arthur & Excalibur). And once again, Drew McIntyre gets away with threatening multiple murders. 8:56-9:02pm EST.
  • Twelve Days of Christmas Contender's Gauntlet: WWE Officials Adam Pearce & Sonya Deville, after discussing Sami Zayn's long list of grievances, decided to make a match for next week's Christmas Even SmackDown. As yet unannounced entrants will participate in (believed-to-be) twelve-man gauntlet for a title shot at the Intercontinental Championship. More to be reported on this as more is revealed.
  • The Real Main Event: Universal champion Roman Reigns returned to SmackDown after a week off and challenged Heyman's loyalty once again. Heyman informed Reigns he wasn't protecting Brock from Reigns but, rather, he was protecting Reigns from Brock. Reigns thanked him for four decades of service to the Family then fired him and attacked him. Lesnar made the save, laying out the entire Bloodline with multiple F5's and stood tall over the chaos as we ended our episode. 9:45-9:59pm EST.
  • SmackDown Women's Championship Match: Charlotte Flair defends next week against Toni Storm.
