Last night during the women's triple threat match between Tiffany Stratton, Nia Jax and Jade Cargill, one of the worst botches in a long time took place during an attempted pinfall attempt.
As seen in the video below, in the first attempt by Cargill on Jax, not only did Jax kick out but Stratton came flying in to break up the pin. In the second attempt by Stratton on Jax, nothing happened and the ref simply counted to two and stopped the count. It's obvious there was a miscommunication - whether Jax was supposed to kick out on that attempt or if Cargill was supposed to run in and interfere is unclear. The botched finish drew a negative reaction from the fans in attendance as well as online.
Fightfuselect.com reported that the pin count botch ended up being "a subject of conversation" backstage following the match. In the past, referees were instructed to count pinfalls as shoots even if it went against the planned finish, however, in recent times, officials have been asked to go along with the script instead.
Jade Cargill suffered a nasty gash near her left eye during this match after being busted open. She posted on social media showing off the cut in a graphic photo, which you can view here.
This gotta be one of the WORST botches of the year 😭#SmackDown
