One of the biggest mixed martial arts stories of the year is that Randy "The Natural" Couture walked away from the UFC as their reigning Heavyweight champion. Dana White and Randy Couture met recently and all indications are that no agreement was reached.
Couture appeared at an "HDNet Fights" MMA card this weekend in Dallas, Texas. Couture made it very clear that he is not retired from the sport and he's already got his sights set on his next opponent. Couture said:
“I am not retired. I am waiting for my UFC contract to expire. I will fight Fedor Emelianenko.”
Emelianenko is considered by many to be the top ranked heavyweight fighter in the world. With Randy Couture's contractual obligations with the UFC expire in October 2008, it's possible that we'll see the much anticipated Couture-Fedor showdown by the end of next year.
