Top-ranked UFC Welterweight contender Tyron Woodley appeared on AXS TV’s “Inside MMA” this week, where he talked about giving Kelvin Gastelum his money back after he missed weight for their UFC 183 fight, training with former WWE Superstar CM Punk and more.
During his appearance on the show, Woodley was asked by host Bas Rutten if he has had the chance to train with former WWE Superstar CM Punk.
“Yeah, I did have a chance to train with CM Punk,” said Woodley. “CM Punk is awesome. He’s in [the gym] three days a week, an hour early to every practice. He’s a student of the sport.”
Woodley also addressed the criticism Punk has received as a non-martial artist getting to leap-frog everyone and start his professional career in the biggest organization on the planet.
“A lot of people are giving him a lot of crap and after hanging out with him for three weeks I told him, ‘[If] anybody has a problem with CM Punk, you have a problem with me,'” said Woodley. “This kid is bridging the gap the best way he knows how. For anybody who’s been out of martial arts and not in the arena for that long, he’s doing exactly what you should do to make up the gap. He’s doing private lessons — 12 to 14 of them a week. He’s in there working and when he gets his fight announced, hopefully I can help him as much as I can get ready for it.”
