I just got back from the Nassau Coliseum. WWE had a RAW house show, which in my opinion has not only been one of the best house shows I’ve ever been to, but quite possibly one of the best WWE shows I’ve been to. It was a very entertaining night with quite a few surprises. One of the first announcements of the night was that Big Show was not there due to personal reasons.
The first match was Rob Van Dam vs. Carlito. It was great seeing these two superstars live. The match was similar to the one that aired on RAW. I was hoping to see Carlito do another high flying spot, but we didn’t get one in this match. Great back and forth action with Rob Van Dam picking up the win.
Tyson Tomko vs. Goldust was next. This match was pretty good. The fans loved Goldust. Tomko looked great like always. Goldust went for Shattered Dreams at one point, but the referee stopped him. Goldust eventually picked up the win with the Curtain Call. Like RVD, Goldust shoke hands and greeted all the fans ringside. I was near the entrance way, and Goldust even climbed up and made sure he shook hands with all the fans in my section, which was a really nice gesture.
Up next, The Spirit Squad came out. Two of them, Johnny and Timmy, were set for tag team action. The Spirit Squad did their cheers and insulted the Long Island crowd in the process. One of the SS members also stated how he was from Long Island. Their opponents were Val Venis and Viscera. Val and Viscera dominated for the most part. I’m not sure which SS member was which, but when it was just Val in the ring that SS member would dominate. The Spirit Squad was able to pick up the win after singling out Val.
Eugene next took on Chris Masters. When Eugene came out, he took off his jacket, and then put on Chris Masters’ robe. He began posing like Masters, and then put the robe on the referee and made him pose like Masters too. Masters was able to dominate for the most part. The fans loved Eugene, and at one point Eugene put Chris Masters in the Master Lock. Masters was able to break out of it (so it seems as if Masters is the first to break the Master Lock, sort of). After getting out, Masters was able to put the Master Lock on Eugene and was victorious.
Next, Ashley came out and would act as the ring announcer for Candice & Victoria vs. Trish and Mickie. For the most part Victoria and Candice isolated Mickie. It was great seeing Victoria back in the ring. When Trish finally got in she was able to take over. Mickie tried helping Trish, but instead missed her top rope drop kick target and nailed Trish instead. Candice tried to use her wand at one point, but in the end it was Trish getting the pin over Victoria with the Chick Kick. After the match Ashley rose Trish’s hand in victory, only to get attacked by Mickie. The fans then started a big “She’s a Psycho” chant after the match.
Next Matt Striker came out. He started to insult the crowd. He made reference to the blizzard last weekend, saying how it was God’s way of showing nobody likes Long Island. He claimed the blizzard was two weeks ago, when in fact it was one week ago. A good amount of fans booed him for his incorrect statement. Tazz’s music hit and then he came to the ring. He stated how he had a big announcement, but every time he tried saying it, Striker kept interrupting him. Tazz said that he came here not as a RAW superstar, not as a WWE superstar, but at the “ECW Taz”. Striker made references to Tazz attacking Kurt Angle at last year’s One Night Stand, and stated that the “ECW Taz” couldn’t do anything to him. Tazz told him not to interrupt him again, but Striker keeps on talking, which results in Tazz putting on the Tazmission. Tazz then goes to say he kept getting interrupted and that he forgot how to say the announcement. He then introduces someone who can make the announcement, and Paul Heyman makes his way to the ring. The crowd erupts for this. Heyman hugs Tazz and then states that on June 11th, in the Hammerstein Ballroom, not Philadelphia, will be the next ECW pay-per-view. Tickets go on sale April 15th. I can’t wait.
Next was Kane vs. Snitsky. This match was back and forth. Snitsky dominated for part of the match. The fans were into this match. Kane was able to win after his second attempt at the chokeslam.
The next match was a very interesting combination. Triple H and Shelton Benjamin took on Shawn Michaels and Ric Flair. There was no Mama in Shelton’s corner tonight. Shawn Michaels was in the match the most. When HBK was in the ring with either Hunter or Shelton it was really good. At one point HBK tried a sunset flip on Triple H, and to flip him over he pulled on his tights. When he did that Triple H’s backside was exposed. Triple H then fought like that for a good minute. He even climbed the top rope. Now Triple H joins Ric Flair and Vince McMahon for exposed backsides I’ve seen in person at WWE events. The fans cheered for Flair a lot, but he didn’t really do that much in the ring tonight. HBK and Flair were victorious after HHH tried to pedigree Flair, but Michaels superkicked him, and then Flair put the figure four on Shelton. After the match Hunter and Benjamin argued in the ring, which Shelton doing the dx crotch crop to Hunter. After he did this, Hunter pedigreed Benjamin and on the microphone said that someone needs to tell Shelton’s mom. After getting up, Shelton took the microphone and said that he would tell his mom.
The next match was the main event. It was Edge vs. Cena with Foley as the refree. Foley came out and said that he was distracted on Monday/Thursday because of Lita’s boobs. As a result, he bans both Lita and her boobs from ringside. Edge then makes his way to the ring and takes the microphone and starts facing off with Foley. He gets interrupted by Cena’s entrance. For the beginning of the match Edge kept dodging Cena. He dodged him so much that Foley took the microphone and said that the fans came to see a WWE Championship match, not a track meet. He then begins to count Edge out of the ring on the microphone. Edge makes it into the ring at 9, and then he and Cena fight into the crowd. Foley again goes on the microphone and said that he will be forced to count out Cena this time, and starts counting super slow. The action goes back in forth in the ring. Eventually Edge gets frustrated at Foley and takes him out. He spears him and then takes the belt and hits Cena. Edge calls out another referee, who was only able to count to two. Edge takes out this referee too and then grabs a chair. Eventually Cena was able to hit the FU and Foley goes back into the ring and counts three. After Cena is done celebrating Foley is left in the ring. Edge attacks him, only for Foley to pull out Mr. Socko. After wards Foley and Cena celebrate, and then Foley gives Mr. Socko to a fan whose sign was ripped by Edge.
Overall it was a great show. I made the 2 hour trip in the bitter cold to Long Island to see the show and it was well worth it. Being there for the ECW announcement was one of my favorite moments of the night. I’m not sure what personal matter kept the Big Show from making it, but I hope everything is going well.
