WWE IN DEPTH: With Johnathan Price "Why Roman Reigns Needs To Lose The Royal Rumble"

Last month I wrote about the WWE creative team booking Roman Reigns like Daniel Bryan so the fans might get behind him, like they did with the leader of “The Yes Movement.” What a difference a few weeks makes. Roman is the WWE World Heavyweight Champion and his feud with The Authority is looking less like a storyline from two years ago and more like one from the attitude area.

Maybe it’s because Vince McMahon himself is once again a regular part of WWE television. Maybe it’s because Roman Reigns is walking around like the toughest baby face we have seen in a long time. He’s not the underdog like Bryan. He’s not the clean cut super hero type like John Cena. He’s almost a PG era version of Steve Austin.

We’ve been told that behind the scenes Roman Reigns is the next handpicked WWE star and most of us have booed him because of it. Who would have thought all they had to do was book him like the last man Vince and company want at the top. We’re starting to get behind him.

Just look at how the crowd in Philadelphia reacted when he punched Vince out and won the title on Raw. These are the same people who booed him out of the building after winning last year’s Royal Rumble. With the Rumble looming again, Reigns has to put his gold on the line against 29 other superstars, while starting from the number one spot. Many think that Roman needs to overcome the odds on his way to walking into the main event of WrestleMania as champion….but I think it shouldn’t happen.

If Roman mows down everyone in the Rumble then sure it makes him look very impressive. He’ll then move on to WrestleMania to face the man he took out at the end of last year…Triple H. It’s a great main event for the biggest show of the year, but it would be so much better if Reigns loses at the Rumble.

Picture this; Roman is the last man standing after the 30 man match. The announcers are putting him over huge. Confetti is raining down from the sky. The Roman Empire lives on…..or does it.

Vince and Stephanie come out to stop the celebration. They mention that this is the first time the WWE World Heavyweight Championship has been defended in the actual Rumble match itself. So to make this match even more special, they have decided to add extra 31st entrant. We then hear Triple H music. The returning C.O.O. doesn’t walk down the ramp. Instead, he enters from the crowd and eliminates Roman from behind. Hunter is the new champion.

In the wake of overcoming all the odds and still being screwed by the Authority, Roman gets even more over with the fans, who have to respect his achievements. The fans will also have no choice but cheer him in his efforts to reclaim his title. Who doesn’t love to hate Triple H and the McMahon family? They are the best heels in the business and anyone who goes against them is a huge babyface.

Roman could also be cheated out of his automatic rematch as well. They could book him in a gauntlet match at Fast Lane against The League of Nations or The Wyatts in order to earn his spot in the WrestleMania main event. Then you can build to a match with the corporate champion Triple H, with his wife and father-in-law in his corner. The anti-hero Roman Reigns would have his cousin The Rock watching his back. It almost has an Austin/Rock vs. The McMahon’s feel to it. Who wouldn’t love to see that?
