The 2016 WWE Royal Rumble took place at the Amway Center in Orlando, FL on January 24th, 2016.
- Pre-show match: Jack Swagger and Mark Henry def. The Dudley Boyz vs. The Ascension vs. Damien Sandow and Darren Young Back and forth chaos between all four teams until the Dudleys get control. Bubba and Dvon hit the Wassup head butt of the top rope on Damien Sandow. They hit a 3D on Victor, but Mark Henry lays out the Dudleys and steal the pin.
- Vince arrives in a limo with his daughter Stephanie. Vince complains about how cold it is in Orlando. They talk about the 30-man Rumble match. Vince says he loves Royal Rumble matches almost as much as he loves himself and Stephanie.
- The 2016 Royal Rumble opening video begins. The pyro hits and the show opens. The opening match will be for the intercontinental title in a Last Man Standing match between Dean Ambrose and Kevin Owens.
- Dean Ambrose def. Kevin Owens: They brawl all over ringside and take out the announce table. Owens throws a bunch of steel chairs in the ring, takes a seat while Ambrose recovers, then action resumes. They go for a superplex off the top through some tables set up outside, but it's reversed. Ambrose smashes Owens with a chair then starts punching him. Ambrose reverses a pop up powerbomb with a hurricanrana, then hits the Dirty Deeds but Owens gets up after a few seconds. He goes for the Dirty Deeds again, this time on a steel chair. The ref starts counting to 10, but Owens rolls out of the ring. Ambrose sets up Owens on a table outside, then smashes him through it with a flying elbow off the top rope to the floor. They're both on the ground for an 8-count before getting up. "This is awesome" chants from the crowd. Ambrose sets up a table in the ring and takes Owens up top. Owens reverses and hits a brainbuster on Ambrose through the table. Owens hits the pop up powerbomb on Ambrose and he's down for a 9 count. Ambrose lays out Ambrose on a bed of tables inside the ring and goes up top. Ambrose gets up and pushes Owens off, all the way down to the outside, through TWO tables, and he's down for the 10 count.
- The New Day comes out to cut a promo and debut Francesca II, their new trombone.
- The New Days def. The Usos: Back and forth action to start, The New Day is getting the biggest pops in the match. The Usos eventually get control, despite Woods outside trying to distract them with Francesca. Jimmy went to the top., and Kofi went to stop him and Jey got involved. Kofi tossed him over the barricade and Big E got a two with a Big E to Belly. Yeah, I made that up. That set up a huge running spear by E into Uso, who was on the apron. They splatted to the floor, as did Jey and Kofi after a splash. Kofi went up but Uso pushed Big E out. Kofi missed Trouble and Uso went for the pin, but Kofi got his leg on the rope. As Uso went up, E came in and as Uso came off of the ropes, he got caught in the Big Ending for the 1-2-3.
- Kalisto vs. Alberto Del Rio: Del Rio controls most of the match, with Kalisto attempting comebacks and mostly failing. Del Rio ties up Kalisto's legs in the corner and goes for a double stomp off the top, but Kalisto dodges it. Kalisto did a springboard into the ring but was met but double knees. Del Rio got a two count and got frustrated. He exposed the top turnbuckle, but Del Rio ended up hitting it fac-first. Kalisto hit his finisher and got the pin to become the new U.S. champion.
- Charlotte def. Becky Lynch: They go to the outside early on and brawl. Ric Flair chases Becky around the ring and forces a kiss on her. Back in the ring, Becky hits a suplex for a 2 count, then locks in the Disarmer until Flair throws his jacket at her. Charlotte rolls her up for the cheap pin. After the match, Charlotte beats down Becky until Sasha comes out for the save. Sasha and Charlotte shake hands at first, but then Shasha lays out Charlotte while the referee holds back Ric Flair.
- The Royal Rumble for the WWE Championship: Reigns and Rusev are out first. Reigns spears Rusev and throws him out. Entrant #3: AJ Styles! Styles tries to hit the Styles Clash on Reigns but reigns avoids it. Tyler Breeze is #4. Styles beats him down then Reigns throws him over to eliminate Breeze. Cole accidentally said Reigns was eliminated. Curtis Axle is #5, he hits the ring hard and lays down Reigns and Styles, who were brawling during their entrance. Slater and Rose try to interfere, but Reigns clotheslines Slater and Styles hits a flying forearm on Rose. Styles eliminates Axle. Jericho is #6. He beats Reigns into the corner then lays out Styles. Styles starts chopping down Jericho with leg kicks then his patented flying forearm. He goes for the Styles Clash, Jericho reverses and attempts the Walls of Jericho, but Reigns interferes. Kane is out at #7, and begins brawling with Jericho, Styles, and Reigns. Goldust is out at #8. Goldust hits the ring and does an uppercut and running bulldog on KAne. Jericho hits a suplex on Styles.
Ryback is out at #9. Ryback runs in and cleans house, laying out everyone. Kofi is in at #10. Ryback hits a big back body drop on Styles. Goldust tries to throw Styles over but he hangs on. #11 is Titus Oneil. Titus eliminates Goldust. R-Truth is #12. He comes out with a ladder and sets it up in the ring, climbs it, and tries to reach for a title belt as if he's in a ladder match. There's nothing there, and Kane pulls him down and throws him over the top rope. Kane tries to eliminate Kofi but he lands on Big E's shoulders and goes back in.
Luke Harper comes in at #13. Vince McMahon and the League of Nations run out, pull Reigns out of the ring, and they beat him down. They all take turns booting Reigns in the face with Vince cheering on. Stardust is in at #14. The League sets Roman Reigns up on the Spanish announce table outside, and Rusev hits him with a splash through it. Vince hugs them to congratulate them on a job well done.
The Big Show comes out at #15 and he eliminates Titus and Ryback. Reigns is carried to the back by EMTs. Big Show goes for a chokeslam on Styles, but Styles spins around him and puts him in a sleeper. Neville is out at #16 and hits a dropkick off the top rope on Harper. Crowd is chanting "AJ Styles." Braun Strowman is in at #16 and throws out Kane. Strowman and The Big Show trade punches until Strowman gets Show in a choke then eliminates him. Kevin Owens is out at #17. Styles goes for the Styles Clash on NEville, but Kevin Owens superkicks him and eliminates Styles after yelling "welcome to WWE" at him. Crowd chanting "AJ Styles" as he is walked to the back by a ref.
Dean Ambrose is out next. Not a lot of action in the ring until Sami Zayn comes out and immediately brawls with Owens. He lays out Stardust, then eliminates Owens. Roman comes at #21 and eliminates Neville. Mark Henry enters at #22 and starts cleaning house. The three Wyatt Family members gang up on Henry to eliminate him. Strowman eliminates Sami Zayn. Lesnar is out at #23. Brock suplexes all members of the Wyatt family except Strowman. Strowman gets some offense in on Lesnar but Lesnar takes him down with a few clotheslines. Lesnar clotheslines Roman over the top rope for the elimination. Lesnar lays out Strowman with another clothesline, then Jack Swagger comes in at #24. Lesnar hits the F5 on Swagger then eliminates him. Lesnar has everyone down with suplexes and knees. The Miz is out at #25, but he goes to the announce table instead of in the ring. Lesnar hits more suplexes on everyone except Strowman, who gets knees. Lesnar eliminates Rowan, then Del Rio enters at #26. Miz is still at ringside. Lesnar eliminates Strowman with a clothesline to the outside. Bray Wyatt is in at #27, and instructs his fellow Wyatt family members back in the ring. They all jump Lesnar, but Lesnar fights back and throws them all out again except Bray. Bray hits a German suplex then goes for an F5, but Harper runs back in and breaks it up with a superkick.
The Wyatt Family is back in the ring beating down Lesnar. Bray hits his finisher, and the four members of the Wyat family all gang up on Lesnar and they eliminate him. Lesnar is taking his time leaving ringside. Dolph Ziggler is in at #28. The Miz finally enters the ring and hits the skull crusher on Ziggler. Sheamus is in at #29. Before Sheamus can make it into the ring, Reigns returns and lays him out. Reigns hits the ring and eliminates The Miz. He hits a suplex and a superman punch on Bray, the crowd boos. Triple H is in at #30.
HHH and Reigs stare each other down. HHH hits the pedigree on Ziggler, Reigns spears Bray, then HHH and Reigns start exchanging right hands. HHH hits a facebuster on Reigns and attempts the pedigree, but Reigns gets out. Jericho hits a lionsault on Bray. HHH eliminates Ziggler. HHH goes for the pedigree on Bray, Bray reverses and tries to go for the Sister Abigail, but Sheamus superkicks Wyatt and eliminates him.
Jericho hits a splash off the top rope on Ambrose, and attempts a Walls of Jericho on HHH but The Game gets out. Jericho hits a codebreaker on HHH, then gets eliminated by Ambrose. Reigns eliminates Sheamus with a superman punch, then HHH flips Reigns out over the top rope for the elimination. The final two men in the ring at HHH and Dean Ambrose.
HHH hits the facebuster on Ambrose, and Ambrose comes back with a clothesline. Ambrose gets HHH on the wrong side of the ropes, but HHH back body drops him over the top rope and down to the floor.
Winner & new WWE World Heavyweight Champion: Triple H
Vince and Stephanie McMahon come out to celebrate HHH's victory as fireworks go off.
