WWE Smackdown! Report (8/4/06) - Taped in East Rutherford, New Jersey

WWE SmackDown! Report
Submitted by Trinae Ross, rajah.com reporter

Welcome readers to my first WWE SmackDown report. While I wrote the WWE
Experience report a few years ago, I took some time off to pursue some other
projects; however, if Hulk Hogan can keep coming back, why can't I? So, hit
MY music and let's get this party started right!

Michael Cole and JBL promise us another night of explosive action from the
Continental Airlines Arena in East Rutherford, NJ as the United States
Champion, Finlay enters the ring.

United States Championship Match
William Regal vs. Finlay (champion)
Finlay comes out to defend his ill-gotten US championship against William
Regal with shillelagh in hand. Regal enters, looking for his chance to hold
championship gold once more, even if he has to go through his one-time
friend. JBL blames SmackDown! general manager Theodore Long for this match,
saying that it was the GM's fault for causing dissention in the ranks.

We go to the action. Regal and Finlay enter a collar and elbow tie up. They
break, pacing the ring. Regal hits a knee to the side of Finlay's face,
followed by a European upper cut. William looks intent on winning this
match. Regal covers for a one count.

Finlay reverses an Irish whip and begins mounting offense, using sharp blows
to Regal's chest. Regal is able to hit a double-under-hook suplex and goes
for another pin. Finlay kicks out and grabs the shillelagh, looking for the
DQ, but the referee confiscates the weapon. While the ref puts the
shillelagh away, out comes the leprechaun, who Finlay throws at Regal,
allowing Finlay to gain the advantage.

Regal is able to gain the upper hand after a flurry of pin attempts and
knees to the head. Regal is showing a new level of intensity, stifling each
of Finlay's attempts to mount any offense. Regal, allowing himself to lose
focus, leaves the ring to go for the shillelagh; however Finlay kicks Regal
in the gut, takes the shillelagh from Regal and hits the Brit for the DQ.
Winner: Regal by DQ

Lashley hits the ring, only to be laid out momentarily by Finlay. While
Finlay and Regal appear to come to an understanding and look to double-team
Lashley, Finlay crosses Regal and hits him with the shillelagh, knocking
Regal into Lashley. As Finlay exits the ring, Lashley hits a running
powerslam on Regal, then signals to the champion that his time is limited.

Cole and JBL mention how Chavo Guerrero will be in the building tonight and
on the record about his turning on Rey Mysterio.

As SmackDown! resumes, Elijah Burke is in the ring. He introduces Sylvester
Terkay, who appears to be a MMA-type brawler. Clips are shown of Terkay's
domination of Matt Hardy last week. His opponent Scott Wright looks at
Terkay as if he wants to submit before the match even starts.

An interesting turn of events shows Terkay seemingly disinterested in his
opponent. He tells Burke to handle this match and he steps out the ring.
Burke, after some basic offense goes for an early pin. While Terkay is a MMA
specialist, Burke, looks to be more of a classic grappler. (Burkes uses a
variety of locks and submission holds).

Wright tries to get into the match, but is met with a clothesline/trip
maneuver. Burke hits Wright with the Elijah Experience (The Stroke, coupled
with the Rings of Saturn) to get the win.

Terkay then enters the ring, then annihilates Wright, ignoring the bell as
he sends a clear message to the rest of the locker room.

Mike "The Miz"Mizanin talks about the WWE Diva Search and how one can expect
the unexpected in the WWE. Camera then cuts to Diva contestant, Jen, as she
talks for a few seconds about being in the WWE, before she gets a pie in the
face.

Cole and JBL hype the King Booker vs. The Undertaker, match later on in the
evening.

SmackDown! returns with Milena telling viewers why she should be chosen as
the next WWE Diva and gets a pie in the face.

Ashley (2005 WWE Diva Search winner) vs. Kristal Marshall
Kristal comes to the ring with a sneer on her face; looking at the crowd as
if they were beneath her. Ashley is in the ring, ready for a fight.

Ashley hits Kristal with forearm and chokes her, the follows up with a
powerslam. Kristal turns the tide with an enzuiguri kick. Kristal's offense
is cut short by another missed kick, giving Ashley the upper hand. Ashley
whips Kristal into the corner, but Kristal counters the monkey flip by
pushing Ashley, wrapping her up and pulling on the tights for the win!
Winner: Kristal

WWE Diva contestant Layla is up next and, like the rest, gets a pie in the
face.

Cole and JBL hype Batista v. Ken Kennedy...Kennedy and also King Booker vs.
The Undertaker.

WWE Raw Rebound
Armando Alejandro Estrada gives the McMahons three boxes of Cuban cigars to
show his appreciation for letting Umanga fight HBK. Later on, police search
DX's locker room, only to find the cigars there. Triple H gets arrested,
leaving Michael to face Umanga alone.

During the Umanga/Michaels match, Shawn fights valiantly, but is overwhelmed
and defeated. A After the match, the McMahons double-team HBK; Vince using a
belt to whip Michaels and Shane doing his version of Sweet Chin Music. Vince
stands over an unconscious Michaels and tells him to tell Triple H that he
will be facing Umanga this coming Monday on Raw.

Tatanka vs. Sylvan
Tatanka enters the ring as Cole and JBL talk about Tatanka becoming an
honorary member of the Dakota Native American Nation. Clips of the ceremony
are shown as Cole talks about Tatanka's rite of passage. Sylvan, the
ambassador of Quebec, enters the ring with a smug look on his face. Sylvan
is looking to go up 2-0 in his meeting with Tatanka.

Tatanka assaults Sylvan with punches, whipping him to the ropes and hitting
leg drop after leg drop, catching Sylvan off guard. Sylvan tries to escape
out the ring, but Tatanka follows driving the small of Sylvan's back into
ring. Tatanka throws Sylvan back in and punches him. Sylvan is able to roll
out ring when ref warns the tribal warrior about using clenched fists.
Sylvan catches Tatanka with a vicious, which allows him the advantage.
Sylvan throws Tatanka in the ring and continues the pressure. Tatanka,
feeding off the crowd's energy, gains the momentum, chopping Sylvan
repeatedly and hitting his finisher, Trails End (a Samoan drop). Tatanka
climbs the turnbuckle, and chops Sylvan in the head. Tatanka covers
1...2...no!

Tatanka is able to nail a swinging side slam for the victory. After his win,
Tatanka dances around Sylvan, then salutes the fans. Winner: Tatanka

Camera pans to Ken Kennedy, who looks battered, but determined. He is up
next.

Batista vs. Ken Kennedy
SmackDown! returns with Ken Kennedy entering the ring. Already 2-0 against
Batista, he's looking for the sweep. Kennedy does his entrance, then the
music hits, as the Animal is unleashed. Batista makes his way to the ring
and he looks to end his losing streak against Kennedy. Both men tie up
early, and Kennedy goes to the ropes. Batista gives a clean break, only to
receive a cheap shot from Kennedy. Ken continues kicking at Batista's leg,
the locks up and slaps on an arm bar. Batista is able to power out and throw
Kennedy into the corner. Batista hits Kennedy with shoulder after shoulder
in the abdomen, then beals him out of the corner for his troubles.

Kennedy rolls out of the ring and calls for a timeout. Batista is suckered
out of the ring which allows Ken to get the upper hand. Batista is able to
post Kennedy, the grab his arm and wrap it around the ring post. Kennedy is
able to dropkick Batista in the knee, which severely weakens the animal.
After continually attacking Batista's knee, Kennedy goes for the pin...but
only gets a two count! Ken puts Batista in a leg submission and begins to
torque the leg. Batista tries to power out...but fails. He tries a second
time and fails again. Putting all his lower body into it, Batista was
successful in the third try.

Ken tries to suplex Batista twice to no avail. Batista suplexed Kennedy, but
his knee gives out which allows Kennedy to fall on top of him for two!
Again, Kennedy is on the attack, but Batista hits a clothesline which sends
both men down! Batista is back up, fighting on one leg. Ken tries for the
advantage once more, but Batista catches his opponent with the spine buster.
The Animal was then able to hit the Batista Bomb and cover for the three!
Winner: Batista

The replay shows Batista hitting Ken with the Batista Bomb. Batista exits
the ring and is met by Michael Cole. Cole congratulates Batista on his win,
but Batista says to save it until he wins his title back.

SmackDown! returns with Erica telling viewers why she should stay....gets a
pie in the face.

Vito vs. The Brooklyn Brawler
Vito comes out in a white dress and many in the crowd look stunned to see
him. (Note: Vito is undefeated in a dress.) His opponent is the Brooklyn
Brawler. Both men pace the ring and Vito drops to one knee, showing some
leg. They tie up. Vito begins taking it to the Brawler. Brawler gets the
advantage by thumbing Vito in the eye. After a short offense, Vito takes the

deal made. Porter's agent calls and Long looks shocked at the money the
agent wants. Long says that they will have to get together and discuss the
matter.

Cole and JBL talk about Chavo turning on Rey; and how he will explain
himself tonight.

Scotty 2 Hotty and Funaki vs. KC James and Idol Stevens
Scotty 2 Hotty and Funaki hit the ring as Michelle McCool introduces KC
James and Idol Stevens. The rookie team sneaks the vets, sending Funaki out
of the ring. Scottie starts the match and is treated to a series of double
teams and dirty tactics. Even Michelle gets into the action. Both Stevens
and James tag in frequently, using double team tactics. Scotty is trying to
make the tag, but misses the enzuiguri.

WWE Tag Champions London and Kendrick look on from the back.

After continued double-teaming, Scotty is able to tag in Funaki, who gets
the upper hand. For a brief moment, all four men were in the ring, only to
have to have Scotty dumped to the outside and Funaki fall victim to a
slingshot missile dropkick to the face finisher by James and Stevens.
Winners: KC James and Idol Stevens

Camera cuts to King Booker, who looks pensive, Queen Sharmell asks book what
is the matter? She pumps up her king, by telling him what The Undertaker
isn't.

The following is an excerpt from WWE Smackdown! *Spoilers* (7/31/06) - East
Rutherford, New Jersey, written by Rajah:
Chavo Guerrero came to the ring and said everyone wants to know why he
turned on Rey Mysterio. He claimed that Rey stole the Guerrero family name
and their blood. Chavo said he grew up with Eddie Guerrero and they were
like brothers together. Chavo said that Smackdown Magazine did an article on
Latinos in wrestling and it was Rey on the cover in a Lowrider Los Guerreros
used to come to the ring in with Eddie instead of Chavo. He said Rey wasn't
a Guerrero and stole Chavo's spotlight. Chavo said Rey did everything to tie
himself to Eddie to steal the spotlight, whether it was wrestling him or
teaming with Eddie. He said when Eddie died, everyone felt horrible and
Chavo retired. He said Rey didn't do the same and instead used Eddie's name
to help himself. Chavo said that every 5 minutes, Rey was mentioning Eddie's
name and dedicating all the matches to him. Chavo said when Rey won the
World title, he still couldn't stand on his own. Chavo said Rey had to use
another Guerrero, him, to save his title but keep the glory. He claimed Rey
used Eddie's name until Chavo couldn't take it anymore at the Great American
Bash and attacked him. Chavo claimed that Rey stole the memory of Eddie from
the fans and his family and is a leech living off the Guerrero name.

Mysterio hit the ring and they brawled in the ring and around ringside. He
slammed Chavo into the ring steps. Eddie Guerrero's wife Vickie hopped the
railing to separate them. The crowd chanted Eddie's name. Chavo backed up
the aisle and went backstage Vickie walked off without saying a word but
glanced at Mysterio as she left.

SmackDown! returns with a replay of Batista defeating Ken Kennedy and
putting the champion on notice.

World Heavyweight Championship
The Undertaker vs. King Booker (champion)
King Booker's music plays as he and Queen Sharmell saunter to the ring. He
takes his time, admiring his subjects as he surveys his kingdom. As he
stands in the middle of the ring, the lights go out and The Dead Man walks
again! His purpose, simple, to make sure that the King rests in peace.

Unblinkingly, Taker walks the isle, eyes fixed on the champion. He walks
methodically up the ring steps and summons light from within the darkness.
The bell rings as booker tries to make a hasty exit. Taker follows, but King
Booker runs back into the ring and cuts off the challenger. Headlock by the
King, only to be thrown into the ropes by and clotheslined outside the ring
as we go to commercial.

He works the champion's shoulder, lifting booker's one arm. The Undertaker
goes old school, but King Booker hits an arm drag. Booker rushes the
challenger and receives a boot to the face. Taker covers the champ for a
count of two. Taker continues working Bookers left shoulders. He old
school's the champion, and crouches, waiting for his prey. The Undertaker

needs to mount a comeback. The champion is now the aggressor, jumping off
the ring apron and nailing the challenger.

Booker gives Taker a thrust kick to the chin...1...2....no!

Booker continues with vicious high kicks and covers for another two count.

the ring. Taker hits Booker with two ho train attacks and then a snake eyes.
A boot to the face and taker covers the champion for another two count.

challenger to the mat. While Khali celebrates with his foot on The
Undertaker's chest, the Dead Man sits up and attacks Khali with renewed
vigor; even sending the behemoth to the outside of the ring with a
clothesline! Winner: Undertaker by DQ
