WWE Heat Report-3rd June 2007
By Shaun Best-Rajah.com Reporter
Hosted by: Todd Grisham (In Studio)
Theme: Saturday Night's Main Event Special
No Heat matches this week. Instead we get segments from past editions of Saturday Night's Main Event. Here's brief highlights of what was aired.
May 11th 1985-The First Saturday Night's Main Event
The Iron Sheik, George The Animal Steele & Nikolai Volkoff vs
Ricky Steamboat, Barry Windham & Mike Rotunda
When his partners desert him Steele gets rolled up by Windham for the three count. Post match Steele destroys a turnbuckle as was the norm for him back then.
After recapping the recent events of the Randy Orton/Shawn Michaels concussion angle we are treated to the whole of the next match.
November 25th 1989 2 out of 3 Falls
The Rockers vs The Brain Busters
This was a great match. It wound up being the Busters last night in the WWF as Tully Blanchard tested positive for cocaine and was on his way out. They shot this match before the Survivor Series where Bobby The Brain Heenan took Blanchard's place and wrestled on his team in a losing effort to Ultimate Warrior's team. This match saw Bobby Heenan wash his hands of his team mid-match and head to the back as the Rockers teamwork bested that of the Busters who were having problems getting going. The match was very solid and I urge you all to watch it as it's just a great tag team match. Fall one goes to the Rockers after Michaels aids a Jannetty sunset flip on Blanchard. The Busters level things up in fall two as Arn Anderson counters a Michaels headscissors attempt on Blanchard by bringing Michaels' throat down across the top rope. Blanchard gets the pinfall. Finally the Rockers take the deciding fall when they thwart the Busters spike piledriver attempt on Jannetty. After disposing of Blanchard, Michaels surprises Anderson with a flying bodypress from the top rope for the three count.
February 8th 1992
Hulk Hogan & Sid Justice vs Ric Flair & Undertaker
This was the match where Sid walked out on Hogan and turned heel. Brutus Beefcake who was at ringside comes to the Hulk's aid who ends up getting a DQ win for his team. Beefcake wasn't able to wrestle as he was still recovering from reconstructive surgery to his face following a parasailing accident.
March 18th 2006
Shane McMahon vs Shawn Michaels
We get a Montreal 1997 finish in favour of Shane courtesy of Vince.
To fill out time we get recaps from last July's event where the team of Batista, Rey Mysterio and Bobby Lashley bested King Booker, Mark Henry and Finlay following a Batista Bomb on the King. This was the match where the useless Mark Henry injured his leg. Finally we see highlights from last night's event where the Great Khali pinned John Cena following the chop of doom and tree slam. Khali's translator says Khali will become the champion when it's Falls Count Anywhere at One Night Stand.
Grisham runs through the eight match One Night Stand card to end the show.
Best match: The Rockers vs The Brain Busters.
Worst match: The Great Khali vs John Cena.
Thumbs up for the archived footage as it was a mix of good wrestling/nostalgia. This week's show is well worth a look.
One Night Stand Predictions
JOHN CENA, EDGE, BOBBY LASHLEY, RANDY ORTON, CM PUNK's TEAM, MELINA, MARK HENRY, THE HARDYS
Despite Khali squashing Cena last night I think Cena will fare a lot better when anything goes anywhere in the arena. Edge will get the better of Batista and be a long term champion. Tonight has to be the end of the Vince/Lashley feud. It's so stale. Vince has stuck it to ECW having the title but Lashley should get it and feud with someone else. I'd like the McMahons to stay off TV a while but realistically I know that won't be happening anytime soon. I'd love to see RVD gain a victory and stick around a while longer but the undeserving Orton is getting a big push so I think he'll squash RVD then carry on concussing the midcard faces. Punk will win for his team to avenge last week's loss to Burke. Candice has had Melina's number on TV for a while so look for Melina to win to level things out a little. I don't think the title's on the line. I don't care for Mark Henry and Kane as this will be the bathroom break match. I'd rather have Benoit and MVP on the card. The Lumberjacks will make it more tolerable. Kane's stock has really fallen as have his recent in-ring performances. The Hardys will keep their titles and put on another great ladder match. It would be great if more teams were added to the mix like Cade and Murdoch, Dykstra and Nitro or better than that London and Kendrick. That would be like Armageddon all over again but hopefully without the sick injury.
I'll return next week when Heat reverts back to the format we all love. Hopefully we'll all look back on our One Night Stand experience and give it a thumbs up in the morning. Enjoy the show wherever you are. See you next weekend. Shaun.
