Welcome aboard. I'm still digesting the news regarding the Sports Illustrated report on the drugs scandal. That's a column for another day. All I'll say is I agree with the headline on Wrestling Observer that says WWE is screwed. For now I'll focus on Heat and the four matches on cue. Let's get to it. We start this week with Divas action.
Jillian Hall vs Mickie James
Jillian starts off by saying hello to all her adoring fans. The crowd give a resounding No when Jillian asks if they want to hear her sing. Jillian says she knew they did and starts to sing a song I'm not familiar with. Happily Mickie enters to cut her off. Jillian works the arm into a wristlock grounding Mickie who retaliates with a judo throw. The commentators talk up the dominant Glamazon Beth Phoenix and the WWE.com article on her. Off the ropes, Jillian tries to counter a hiptoss with a monkey flip but Mickie handstands free then snapmares and hits a low dropkick for a one count. Mickie forearms, sends Jillian off the ropes, Mickie puts her head down, allowing Jillian to throw Mickie down by the hair. Jillian misses a handspring legdrop. Mickie boots the breast then forearms Jillian into the corner. Jillian reverses an Irish whip, Mickie counters Jillian's handspring backelbow attempt with a victory roll attempt but Jillian counters by falling back with an electric chair drop for a nearfall. Jillian throws down then rubs Mickie's face into the mat. Mickie punches back, Jillian cuts off a rope whip by reeling Mickie in for a backelbow for another nearfall. Jillian tugs at Mickie's hair twice each time breaking before the referee's five count. Jillian stomps the back, snapmares Mickie by the hair, sings, kicks the back again then tugs at Mickie's hair in the ropes. Jillian talks trash to Mickie who forearms back so Jillian kicks her down. Jillian snapmares then applies a rear naked choke. After Jillian thwarts one escape attempt, Mickie elbows the gut, ducks Jillian's chop attempt and both divas cancel each other out with a vicious looking neckbreaker. Both Divas get up at the referee's three count. Mickie wins a forearm exchange, Jillian reverses an Irish whip then charges and catches Mickie's boot. Mickie uses her other boot to break Jillian's grip. Mickie backelbows Jillian and comes out of the corner with a headscissors. Mickie ducks a lunge and lands a Thesz press off the ropes followed by punches to the head. Mickie lands two clotheslines before throwing Jillian down by the hair. Jillian gets up to knee Mickie in the gut. Mickie sidesteps a sunset flip off the ropes by going around then under Jillian before trying to flip her over. Jillian sits on top of Mickie and hooks the ropes. 1-2-the referee sees it. Mickie reverses 1-2-kickout. Mickie boots the gut and attempts the MickDDT but Jillian backs her into the corner. Jillian forearms then hoists Mickie onto the second rope. Mickie lands a punch counter then goes for a tornado DDT but Jillian throws her to the mat. Jillian covers for a nearfall. Jillian paces the ring a bit allowing Mickie from the mat to kick Jillian down via the knee. Mickie gets up, boots the gut, lands a kiss and lands a reverse spin kick to the head knocking Jillian cold. Cover, 1-2-3. Great opener by the Divas. Here is Your Winner: MICKIE JAMES.
Hacksaw Jim Duggan vs Jimmy Jack Cash
Usual fanfare for Hacksaw. Cash looks and dresses like a very young Samoa Joe. Hacksaw gets the crowd going with Hooos and USA chants. Following a brief jostle to the ropes Cash delivers punches to no efffect. Hacksaw comes back with three clotheslines. Hacksaw offers a free shot only to block and land punches of his own. Hacksaw clubs the back, sends Cash off the ropes, Hacksaw puts his head down, Cash boots then quickly clotheslines and applies a chinlock. Hacksaw can't escape by hooking the hair so he elbows free then lands punches and a shoulder tackle off the ropes. Hacksaw runs into a back kick to the gut. Cash hesitates so Hacksaw lands punches until Cash knees the gut then rams Hacksaw's head into the corner. Cash gains a nearfall from a snapmare before going back to the chinlock. Hacksaw elbows free then blocks a head ram to the corner and turns the tables on Cash. Following six mounted punches in the corner, Hacksaw argues with the referee before turning into some punches. Hacksaw reverses Cash off the ropes into a slam. Hacksaw finishes things with the three point stance clothesline. 1-2-3. Here is Your Winner: HACKSAW JIM DUGGAN. Bad match.
The Sandman vs Mike Edwards
It's Enter Heat for the former construction worker who takes his time walking along the guardrails with his kendo stick in hand. Looks like Sandman has now been deprived of his beer in addition to his trademark fags and old Metallica music all in just over a year. Sober Sandman just isn't right. The commentators reference Sandman's 20 arrests and the fact that he once punched out a prison guard. Grisham then notes Sandman's tough Philadelphia upbringing and unpretty ring style. Korpella says Sandman comes through the crowd as he sees himself as one of the people. I'm predicting this one won't last long. Both men exchange lockups to the corner and subsequent clean breaks. Sandman boots the gut, sends Edwards off the ropes into a hiptoss. Sandman follows up with an armdrag takedown into an armbar while slapping at Edwards' chest. Sandman applies a wristlock, Edwards lands a flurry of punches. Edwards gets Sandman in a front facelock but plays to the crowd allowing Sandman to nip free and quickly counter into the white russian legsweep. Sandman hooks the leg. 1-2-3. Here is Your Winner: THE SANDMAN. Squash. Post match Sandman poses on the ringsteps with his kendo stick then leaves up the entrance ramp. I'm disappointed he didn't decide to cane the crap out of Edwards. Here's hoping the bogus Sandman assault charge from an ECW event last year is thrown out in November.
Snitsky vs Super Crazy
No reaction for Snitsky who gets put over huge by the commentators. Crazy comes out looking nervous. Crazy ducks a lunge and nails several kicks to the back of Snitsky's leg but can't Irish whip him. Snitsky Irish whips Crazy then catches a float over attempt by getting Crazy on his shoulders. Crazy gets down and pushes Snitsky into the corner. Crazy lands kicks to the back of the leg and head but these don't faze Snitsky. Crazy lands quick chops, punches and boots to the gut then drops Snitsky with a low dropkick to the knee. Crazy fires up but charges into a big clothesline to put Crazy in the corner. After a kick, Snitsky tosses Crazy over the top rope so hard that the momentum forces Crazy back in under the bottom rope. Snitsky drags Crazy by the leg to the middle of the ring to drop an elbow. Snitsky slams then traps Crazy in a double underhook wrenching maneuver. Crazy hangs in there and escapes following knees to Snitsky's knee area. Snitsky shoves Crazy off the ropes and into a big boot. Snitsky finishes things with a pumphandle slam. 1-2-3. Here is Your Winner: SNITSKY. Passable due to Crazy's efforts.
As Snitsky paces around the ring snarling, Grisham says he can't see any superstar beating him anytime soon. Grisham then signs off to end the show.
Best Match: Jillian Hall vs Mickie James.
Worst Match: Hacksaw Jim Duggan vs Jimmy Jack Cash.
Thumbs down from me for this week. A great beginning but things took a trip south from then on. Main Event wasn't as bad as I thought it would be as Crazy got in some offense. See you next week. Until then have a good one. Shaun. Comments/praise/feedback/criticism/discussion points please direct to shaunmb1@hotmail.com.
