Additional Details On WWE Legally Clearing Brock Lesnar For A Return To TV

As previously reported, Brock Lesnar made his return at the conclusion of WWE SummerSlam on Sunday, where he executed an F5 on 17-time World Champion John Cena. It has been reported that the company was able to bring Lesnar back because he was "cleared" by WWE's legal team concerning Janel Grant's lawsuit against WWE and Vince McMahon. However, some fans were led to believe that this meant Lesnar had been cleared of any wrongdoing in relation to the lawsuit.

According to Fightful Select, that is not the case. The term "cleared" only refers to Lesnar being approved to appear on WWE TV and does not imply that he is off the hook regarding Grant's case. The report also noted that Grant's legal team expects more information to emerge during the discovery process about Lesnar. He is mentioned in the lawsuit as a WWE and former UFC star and was later confirmed in the amended lawsuit. The lawsuit alleges that McMahon offered Grant as a bargaining chip to persuade Lesnar to re-sign, and that Lesnar was receptive to the idea, although the encounter did not ultimately occur.

Around the time of WrestleMania 40, there was speculation about Lesnar's return, but Fightful was informed by a WWE higher-up that a return was not expected anytime soon. This turned out to be accurate. WWE had maintained throughout the previous year that Lesnar was not near a potential return, with an employee stating that there was a directive preventing Lesnar from being included in any video packages or promotional materials. The report indicates that only Vince McMahon received similar treatment recently, while WWE began mentioning Lesnar on TV again in the weeks leading up to his return.
