AEW Planned Kris Statlander's Return Well In Advance, Continues Shift In Women's Wrestling Landscape

On Sunday night, Kris Statlander continued the transition that the women's wrestling landscape has been undergoing in recent months.

Statlander captured the TBS Women's Championship at AEW Double Or Nothing in a continuing trend of recent women's wrestling landscape-shaping moves. Among these are Trinity Fatu debuting in IMPACT Wrestling, Mercedes Mone appearing in NJPW, Willow Nightingale capturing the new NJPW Strong Women's Championship, the end of the longest running title reign in modern women's history with Asuka dethroning Bianca Belair and the recent push of new WWE main roster star Zoey Stark.

Fightful Select is reporting that AEW has had the title change planned for some time now, with the only previous TBS Women's Champion in history, Jade Cargill, set to take time off from the company soon before returning with an evolved character at some point down the road.

Kris Statlander had been recently traveling with the company after being on the sidelines due to injury for months, and even worked out in the ring prior to a recent AEW Dynamite taping.

AEW gave Statlander a ton of momentum on Sunday night, having her be the one to finally end the 60-0 undefeated streak of Cargill's, which covers a lengthy span of time and a ton of notable names being fed to her to build up the streak, giving someone like Statlander the inevitable push when the time comes to pull the trigger on ending it.
