Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com reported last April that WWE backstage interviewer Cathy Kelley had been taking promo classes and undergoing in-ring training, with the intention of utilizing her in a managerial role in the future. However, not much has developed since that report.
In the latest edition of Fightful Select Answers Q&A, a fan inquired about Kelley’s involvement in projects outside of WWE. Sean Ross Sapp confirmed Johnson’s report, stating that sources he spoke to indicated Kelley trained at the WWE Performance Center on her own initiative last year. This training was more focused on the potential for her to take on an “extended on-screen role” rather than solely as a wrestler. Sapp also mentioned that he has not heard of any specific creative plans involving her in a wrestling capacity.
Additionally, Sapp noted that there were discussions last year regarding Kelley’s future beyond WWE. While this doesn’t necessarily imply that she would be leaving the company, it does suggest that TV and film opportunities might be available for her in the future. He also highlighted that, although Kelley enjoys her current role in WWE, she has been exploring other options.
