Backstage News On CM Punk Pitching To Be In AEW Blood & Guts, Neither Team Wanting Him

CM Punk has been hit-or-miss with live crowds since returning to the scene in All Elite Wrestling a few weeks ago.

Since working the new weekly Saturday night AEW Collision on TNT two-hour prime time show, "The Best in the World" has had some extremely positive crowd reactions, such as the one in his hometown of Chicago for the series premiere of AEW Collision.

He has also seen some extremely negative crowd reactions, such as many of those that he experienced in Canada the last couple of weeks.

Apparently his popularity is similar behind-the-scenes in AEW right now.

Fightful.com is reporting that CM Punk pitched to be included in the AEW Blood & Guts match on the July 19 episode of AEW Dynamite from the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts.

According to the report, "The Second City Saint" pitched being the fifth man for the Blackpool Combat Club team consisting of Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, Wheeler Yuta, Konosuke Takeshita and one additional mystery member, to take on The Elite team of Kenny Omega, The Young Bucks (Nick & Matt Jackson), "Hangman" Adam Page and one additional mystery member.

Punk's idea was reportedly shot down, as both teams apparently had little-to-no interest in aligning with the pro wrestling legend for this particular bout coming up on 7/19 in Boston.

"Neither team would want him’ one source said," read the Fightful.com report. "When we asked about issues with Blackpool Combat Club's Jon Moxley, we were told that [Jon] Moxley wasn’t opposed to the idea. However, as of two weeks before the show, the partners were already determined."
