-- The buzz around Cody Rhodes' future and prospects of signing with WWE have died down considerably over the last week though rumors continue to swirl. Last week, an online report suggested that talks between the two sides had "fizzled out" but fightfulselect.com reports that according to WWE sources, nothing has changed in regards to his future. That statement does come with some ambiguity as it is unclear if that means Rhodes is still on track to sign with WWE or that there is no change in his free agent status.
-- The report further notes that talent within WWE has never specifically been told that Rhodes was on in his way in and from a creative standpoint, the writing team feels the chances of him coming to WWE are "uncertain." Ideas have been pitched though, specifically some sort of angle or match with Seth Rollins. Meanwhile, some AEW wrestlers are of the belief that any potential deal between WWE and Cody is now off and that he wouldn't be jumping ship, but that is completely conjecture at this point. Cody and his team have always wanted to downplay his free agent status and minimize speculation about his future destination and when Cesaro decide to walk away, they had hoped those rumors would be put on the back burner.
-- Another source of confusion, according to the Wrestling Observer is that at one point Cody was listed on the internal WrestleMania documents but his name has since been removed. Whether this means talks have truly broken down and he isn't headed there or if the company simply is trying to keep his return a secret remains to be seen.
