Backstage News On El Hijo Del Vikingo's Contract Situation

WWE announced during last year's WrestleMania season that they have acquired the Lucha Libre AAA promotion. Top stars, such as El Hijo Del Vikingo, have remained active since this acquisition.

According to PWInsider.com, Vikingo is directly under contract with WWE rather than AAA itself. The report also indicated that all other AAA-contracted talent is believed to be under contract with Fillip, the minority owner of AAA. Fillip, a sports and entertainment holding company based in Mexico, owns 49% of the company, while WWE holds the remaining 51%.

Vikingo won the AAA Mega Championship for his second reign in May of last year by defeating Alberto El Patron. He subsequently lost the title to Dominik Mysterio at the AAA x WWE Worlds Collide event in Las Vegas in September 2025. Vikingo recently became the #1 contender for the Mega Championship at AAA's debut on FOX Latin America over the weekend. However, there is currently no information on when Vikingo will receive his title shot against Mysterio, as the reigning champion is out of action due to an injury.
