As previously reported, the main event of last Monday night’s post-WWE SummerSlam episode of RAW featured the newly-crowned World Heavyweight Champion Seth "Freakin" Rollins from The Vision defending his championship against "The Mega Star" LA Knight. The match ended in disqualification after CM Punk emerged from the crowd and attacked Rollins. Subsequently, The Vision rushed to the ring to assist Rollins and confront Punk and Knight, who were arguing with each other.
Dave Meltzer mentioned on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio that the title match between Rollins and Knight was initially supposed to take place the previous night at WWE SummerSlam. Meltzer added that WWE’s creative team considered holding the match without any prior advertisement. However, they ultimately decided to schedule the match for RAW the following night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
Meltzer also revealed that WWE had planned the World Title Match between Rollins and Knight weeks in advance, meaning this matchup was always part of the plan following Rollins’ title victory at the premium live event on Sunday.
LA Knight holds a victory over Rollins, having defeated him at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event last month. While Rollins seemed to suffer a knee injury during that match, he later disclosed at SummerSlam that the injury was a ruse. He cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase on Punk after Punk had already competed in a grueling match against GUNTHER, ultimately winning the World Heavyweight Title.
