Backstage News On Motor City Machine Guns’ Salaries Before Their WWE Release

As previously reported, WWE is currently looking to rebuild its tag team division, which has been significantly weakened due to the release of several tag teams, including former WWE Tag Team Champions The New Day, the Motor City Machine Guns, and Wyatt Sicks.

In the latest edition of Fightful Select Answers Q&A, Sean Ross Sapp addressed a fan's question about how WWE could release multiple tag teams while simultaneously trying to restore this division. Sapp explained that the situation with The New Day (Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods) was primarily financial; they turned down a pay cut from WWE. In contrast, the Motor City Machine Guns (Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin) were reportedly earning lower salaries, with the lowest main roster WWE contracts estimated at around $350,000 per year.

Regarding WWE's efforts to rebuild the tag team division, Sapp mentioned that the company’s strategy of "bringing in new but familiar teams" is likely to be a more cost-effective approach compared to retaining The New Day, who were reportedly making millions of dollars each per year. One team that WWE is rumored to be considering for a return is Enzo Amore and Big Cass. The New Day and the Motor City Machine Guns will have to complete their 90-day notice of termination periods before they can become unrestricted free agents.
