Backstage News On Original Plans For The MJF – Jeff Jarrett Feud In Early 2025

AEW teased a major storyline between MJF and pro wrestling legend Jeff Jarrett in January 2025. However, ultimately, the feud did not materialize. MJF and Jarrett had a heated promo exchange during the January 15, 2025, episode of Dynamite. In their confrontation, Jarrett referred to MJF as a “scumbag” and insulted his mother by calling her a “call girl.” The promo sparked significant backlash on social media due to its offensive nature, leading to the feud being canceled.

In the latest edition of the Fightful Select Answers Q&A, a fan inquired about the initial plans for the MJF-Jarrett rivalry. Sean Ross Sapp mentioned that the ideas for the feud changed rapidly, especially following the controversial segment on January 15. Sources close to the situation indicated that the “call girl” line, although written by a writer and approved by Jarrett, faced pushback from MJF. He believed this remark wouldn’t benefit Jarrett's babyface character.

Sapp also noted that MJF was unhappy with Jarrett's use of the term “scumbag,” as he felt it could lead to the audience cheering for the arrogant heel. Originally, the feud was intended to last until All In: Texas, and then Revolution, but the decision was ultimately made to conclude it prematurely. Sapp added that AEW President Tony Khan never intended to book a prolonged feud between them, as he had other plans for MJF.

Furthermore, Sapp disclosed on Fightful that he had been informed there was neither a pitch nor a plan for Jarrett to capture the AEW World Championship at any point during this storyline.
