Backstage News On The Originally Planned Location For AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2026

As previously reported, this year's AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door pay-per-view (PPV) is scheduled to take place on Sunday, June 28, at the SAP Center in San Jose, California.

According to BodySlam+, sources indicate that AEW initially intended to hold the PPV in Chicago, Illinois. However, NJPW is hosting the opening night of the G1 Climax 36 in Hoffman Estates, a suburb of Chicago, and felt that holding Forbidden Door too close in date would not be ideal. Additionally, another source mentioned that AEW timed the announcement to coincide with WWE's recent episode of SmackDown at the SAP Center.

The AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door event will once again feature crossover matches between AEW, NJPW, CMLL, and STARDOM. No matches have been announced yet for the show. Before Forbidden Door, AEW will host Double or Nothing 2026, which is set for Sunday, May 24, at the Louis Armstrong Stadium in Queens, New York.
