Backstage News On Possible Next Destination For Santos Escobar After WWE Release

As previously reported, Santos Escobar was among those released by WWE last Friday during their latest roster cuts. Other notable names let go include Kairi Sane, Aleister Black, and the Motor City Machine Guns. Escobar had briefly exited WWE before re-signing with the company for a significant pay raise.

According to Fightful Select, CMLL expected Escobar to join their promotion around that time, but WWE’s offer prompted him to stay. The report also noted that sources anticipate conversations with CMLL will resume now that he has been released by WWE. Had he joined CMLL at the time, he likely would have made appearances for AEW.

Escobar is expected to become a free agent in 90 days. When he re-signed with WWE, it was believed that his pay was too high to keep him off television, yet he was not utilized on WWE TV and was instead sent to AAA. Currently, he is out of action due to a tricep injury but is expected to recover and be close to being cleared when his 90 days are up. During this time, he can still use the WWE Performance Center for rehabilitation.
