There has been speculation that the fan in the front row who prompted Punk to apologize might have been a "plant" to facilitate this moment. However, according to Fightful Select, while some believe the fan was a setup, WWE staff have stated they have no indication that this was the case.
Later, Punk participated in the main event of Night of Champions, where he faced Undisputed WWE Champion John Cena. Punk lost the match due to outside interference from several top stars, including Seth "Freakin" Rollins, who won the 2025 Men's Money in the Bank.
