Backstage News On Seth Rollins’ “Ruse Of The Century” Being Featured On WWE: Unreal

As previously reported, Netflix has recently unveiled the new trailer for "WWE: Unreal," with Season 2 set to premiere later this month. The trailer highlights some of the key topics for the upcoming season, including Seth Rollins executing what is referred to as the “Ruse of the Century” during WWE SummerSlam 2025.

This incident occurred when Rollins appeared to suffer a leg injury during his match against LA Knight at Saturday Night’s Main Event in July. At the time, the injury was believed to be legitimate, with Rollins continuing to sell the injury backstage. However, rumors soon circulated suggesting that the injury was part of an angle, which was later confirmed at SummerSlam when Rollins cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase and won the title from CM Punk, who had just gone through a challenging match against GUNTHER.

In the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that a significant aspect of the worked-shoot injury angle involving Rollins was to create a storyline for "WWE: Unreal." He mentioned that despite reports surfacing the following day claiming the injury was not legitimate, many insisted it was not an angle.

Meltzer explained that he made inquiries after being contacted about the situation, and as time went on, it became evident that no one was certain whether it was a legitimate injury or part of the storyline. Eventually, he received confirmation from sources indicating that it was indeed an angle for SummerSlam. Meltzer also shared that he spoke to the talents involved, who claimed they had no idea that Rollins was working the injury, asking, “It’s like, are you in the real world? Anyone who paid attention, even if they wanted to believe, they had heard the story that this was probably a work — if you were following wrestling at all, you at least heard that this could be an angle.”

Furthermore, Meltzer criticized "WWE: Unreal" for presenting the situation as if WWE had "fooled everyone" regarding Rollins’ injury. Season 2 of "WWE: Unreal" is set to debut on Netflix on January 20.
