Backstage News On Speculation Of The Rock Being Randy Orton’s Mystery Caller

Ever since WWE legend "The Viper" Randy Orton brutally attacked Undisputed WWE Champion "The American Nightmare" Cody Rhodes during their contract-signing segment on an episode of SmackDown and turned heel, he has been in contact with a mystery caller, leading fans to speculate about the caller’s identity.

One name that has emerged in these discussions is WWE legend Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. The Rock has not appeared on WWE programming since last year’s Elimination Chamber premium live event (PLE). During that event, The Rock sought Rhodes' response to his offer of becoming his corporate champion. However, Rhodes refused to “sell his soul,” which resulted in 17-time World Champion John Cena shockingly turning on him and joining forces with The Rock. Following that storyline, The Rock disappeared from WWE television. Nevertheless, his potential involvement in the ongoing feud between Orton and Rhodes makes sense, given his complicated history with Rhodes.

In the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez and Dave Meltzer discussed the speculation regarding The Rock being the mystery caller. Alvarez suggested that it must be The Rock. However, Meltzer stated that WWE sources have "strongly denied" the possibility of The Rock being involved in the storyline.

He acknowledged that, even if The Rock were part of the angle, only a few individuals—WWE President Nick Khan, WWE Chief Content Officer Paul "Triple H" Levesque, and The Rock himself, along with maybe one or two others—would be aware of it. Nonetheless, Meltzer insisted that he has been firmly told that it is not The Rock.
