As previously reported, Steve Maclin was fired following the briefcase reveal from the Feast or Fired Match on last week’s episode of iMPACT on AMC. In that same match, Eric Young, Trey Miguel, and Eddie Edwards all received title shots.
In the latest edition of Fightful Select Answers, Sean Ross Sapp addressed whether the situation surrounding Maclin’s firing was legitimate (a "shoot") or part of a story (a "work"). While it is not definitively clear, Sapp mentioned that Maclin has been “tight-lipped” about the matter. Additionally, several sources within the company believe that he is actually leaving TNA.
Sapp also noted that Maclin had signed a contract extension with the company in January, after his original contract expired at the end of the year, although the duration of the extension has not been confirmed. Some people inside the company suspect that his firing might be a legitimate event; if it turns out to be a storyline, it could mean that some of the talent has been misled. Historically, most individuals who have been "fired" in Feast or Fired matches have faced actual releases, though there have been notable exceptions. As of now, it remains unclear which category Maclin falls into.
